Default IS this really Van Halen?

    ??

I don't think it is but wanted some of you experts to chime in and get the truth.

It seems like this was proven NOT to be VH but I can't remember for sure.

    Thanks for any help!

I don't think so. Doesn't sound like Al's style of playing.

I was wondering about this the last time it came up. Do you guys remember that Guitar World interview right around the time of the Wildlife Soundtrack that Ed was saying him and Donn were experimenting with new ideas by themselves in 5150. Ed was working with polyrythyms on Lindrums as well as real drums, bass and keyboards. while recording the movie score. This could explain why it sounds like Ed but not Al.

I thought no based upon the drum sound.... def not Al (at least to these ears)...but upon listening to it again, the drums do sound synth at times? so maybe Sleepers theory is correct, but not Al, no way no how

Well it definitely isn't Alex playing. Sounds like his drum sound at the time though. It sounds like Ed. A really good player if it's not. Who could it be from that time?

No offense, but that sounds NOTHING like Al's drum sound at the time, not even remotely close. Certainly this is not Al playing. It does sound something like Eddie though. I can't be sure of that, but this is not VH the band.

None taken, my ears hear some electronic type sounds in the fills, from just before the 5150 era. Another listen and it's not the same snare sound. Bass drum sounds similar to me, but whatever. Shitty recording? I don't know. "Not even remotely close" is a little strong. To each his own.

I don't believe it's Eddie or Al. Just some dudes doing a Van Halen pastiche.
