    'fire in the hole'

    ‘Fire in the hole!’

Last July, Ceponis was working the drive-through window at a Taco Bell when the two teenage boys pulled up to pick up their order. She gave them their 32-ounce drink and turned to get the rest of the order. When she turned back toward the car, the boys yelled, “Fire in the hole!” and threw the drink at her. It hit her in the jaw, stunning her and soaking her with blue soda.

The “fire in the hole” prank is popular on YouTube, and even today it’s not hard to find plenty of examples there. But Ceponis didn’t know that then; she thought it was a personal attack on her. Then a co-worker told her that it was a video prank that was posted online, first on a prank site and then on YouTube.

Tony Hernandez, the attorney for one of the boys pointed a finger of blame at Web sites that post such videos in general, and at YouTube in particular.

“I believe the true story here is not juvenile conduct. I believe the true story is corporate irresponsibility on the part of YouTube allowing these videos of people who have been hurt and humiliated to be posted on a Web site,” he said. “They have to take some responsibility.”

When the boys were prosecuted, YouTube agreed to take down all the “fire in the hole” videos posted by copycat pranksters. But, said Hernandez, “If you searched today, you would see dozens of videos. They know they’re posted on their site. Remove them today. It’s their responsibility,” he said, referring to YouTube.

This is un-fucking-believable!!!!! So this is not a juvenile conduct issue? Hmmm...seems a bit strange to me. I know my parents weren't perfect but I did grow up knowing that throwing anything at anyone at anytime in this fashion was not acceptable conduct.

I remember a time when the finger was always pointed at the parents when stuff like this happened. With the vast number of parents these days that let the computer do the parenting, I guess things haven't changed all that much. Time for parents to start taking some ownership of these issues and events.

    This story is pathetic!!!!

This was on CNN yesterday, which only exposes it to a wider audience of idiots that will copycat it now.

They interviewed the victim of one of these "fire in the hole" pranks.

The woman was saying that she was having problems to this day working in a drive through window as she was always looking over she shoulder afraid it would happen again.

I'm sorry, but while these kids are absolute turds, can a full grown woman get Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from having a cold drink tossed through your window? That's kind of what she was hinting at.

As good a reason as any, in my opinion, to get a different job...perhaps a better job...

What's with the national news programs making such a big deal over this kind of stuff...did you see the one where the woman found a small snake wound around her toddlers leg....shocking I know, but her repsonse? "The next thing the snake was going to do was start eating my daughters leg"

    uhhhh, doubtful.

Nobody said it's the victim's fault. Why try to intentionally misconstrue someone's words that way?

im failing to see the problem. Should youtube be forced to take these down? No. Did these kids do anything wrong? NO!!! They never hurt, killed anyone!! Its funny as hell! Even if it happend to me I would think its funny! But, unlike most in this world, I do have a sense of humor.

You all are acting like these kids made some toast, got bored and decided to kick the local dog....which btw, I dont endorse. Kicking of any animal should be done by professionals!

I tend to agree. Kids have been doing this kind of stuff for years and will continue to do so for years to come. This article makes it sound like some new kind of epidemic sweeping the country.
Is it clever? Is it particularly nice? No, but it is not pure raging evil either. It is kids blowing off steam and having a laugh, just like most adults did when they were young. When I was a kid, if I was caught doing dumb shit I would be told off. Nowadays there are charges and psychiatrists and law suits and the like.
No wonder people are wound up.....
As for PTSD? Jesus christ. If people have become that sensitive they have some serious problems initally.
Everyone needs to relax just a bit.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

I'm waiting for one victim to catch up with the kids and kick their ass. Of course the families of the kids would probably sue.

Still, would love to see the tide turned on some of these pranksters.
