Default Info needed for painting a Frankenstrat

Hey guys, Awhile ago there was a thread here on painting a striped frankenstrat. A few of you said to get a certain type of paint at the auto stores. I want to do a project guitar and need that info. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks! (what paint/store)

Rebel, do you have spray equipment, if you do I reccomend that you go to a paint and body shop supply company, and get an acrylic urethane base coat clear coat system... it's not the cheapest way to go but you'll be much happy with the finished results... and personally I reccomend Duponts Chroma BAse or Chroma Premier system... Bobby

+1 for sprayguns but ... not for a Frankenstrat.

Go to Auto Zone and grab ya some Duplicolor spraypaint.
Paint it up, scuff it up, burn it, drag it from the rear bumper of your car.
    Have fun!

I used Duplicolor Truck Van & SUV spray paint from AutoZone. you're not wanting a super glossy finish for a Frankenstrat. I just finished making mine...

Nice lefty! Looks like you got too many turns on those spring claw screws. I would back them out a bit to align that bridge.

Yeah, I hadn't tuned it or set anything up yet when I took the pics. My bridge is parallel to the body now and my baby's been fine-tuned.

Hey, thanks for all the info. The duplicolor is what I remember from last thread. And the lefty looked sweet! I will post the results if I can.

Also, I'm wondering if it would be better to leave the guitar raw, or try to clear coat or buff for a shiney finish. (Only if it's simple and not too involved...I'm no Dino)

Well, I've seen it done both ways, but I personally don't care for a super glossy Frankenstrat. It just doesn't look right to me. It should look worn the hell out in my opinion. I put a satin finish clear coat on mine just to lock everything in when I got it the way I wanted it.

Think of it like this. And this is where alot of people slack. Ya gotta remember that the real deal is more then 25+ years old. With that in mind, you have to wear the areas that dont get touched often or at all. These areas get scuffed and dulled. NOT SCRATCHED. Areas like the upper horn, in the middle pickup area, ect. These areas should be yellowed a bit also. The areas that get "rubbed" should have a shine to it. The arm cutaway, the belly cut, ect. These little details will set your guitar above the rest.
