Default The last GREAT VH song is......

"Humans being" would have to be it for me........easy. If that was'nt released it would've been "Crossing over". Dark, but great moments in VH history.

The ones with Sammy were disastrous in 2004. I would'nt of thought Sammy would have let those songs go onto record. Embarrasing, sloppy and VH3 leftovers.
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

To me, there are so many that were great. I'll have to agree with you though, Humans Being was most likely it.

I'm not of the BOBW '04 bashing clan. I thought those three songs were excellent, with a few shortcomings of course. Even though Eddie is Eddie, I don't like his bass playing. When I hear Mike kick ass like he does on "The Seventh Seal" and just about anything from Fair Warning or II, I try to imagine what it would've been like to have his simple but awesome thumping on those three tunes. And Sammy's lyrics on "Up For Breakfast" were obviously dumb, but I don't let it ruin what is otherwise a great song--and the best of the three as far as production and sonic quality goes. There's a shitload of energy and excitment in "It's About Time," and "Learning To See" is just awesome, quality songwriting. Yes, those three songs should've had a full-time producer and engineer on them (not EVH working for that credit), but there were great VH moments in all of them.

HB is the last great four piece old school cut.

MWM is great, but it's also overly engineered, boarded, and dubbed.

well if we are talking old school cut then lets say Panama. It has it all but in the old school way.

You can say Panama all you like.

Personally, I think Panama is one of the weaker tracks off '84, compared to a number of Ed's other compositions on the same LP.

HM and MWM technically ought to be considered one-off novelties, unfortunately. From a purist perspective, one might only consider songs eligible for this speculation that appeared - had to appear - on one of the ten full true Van Halen albums....barring compilations, the live LP, and that piece of shit III.

In which case, the last great VH song would likely be something off Balance.

But I still think HB was the last song Ed cut that truly reflected the tone and vibe of Van Halen as we once knew.

After that...it's all been jury-rigged hodgepodge.

I liked MWM, but they over-processed Dave's voice, but damn, it did remind how well Dave's voice goes with Ed's guitar tone.

I rock out to Humans Being, but I have one critique, I can't stand the chorus. "Shine On, Shine On."

Don't know why, just don't like it.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I love the crunchiness of "Learning to See" in the intro, and then Sammy goes and ruins it with the ballad part at the beginning. Pfft.
    Stay strong, Edward!

Crossing Over by far is the last "great' VH song by far.

Get in the car, crank, and you will HEAR why.
