Default What's the deal with the Grand Rapids, MI show (June 2nd)???

It's the last night of the tour, and it very well could be the last time Van Halen ever performs in concert again (knowing Eddie and the problems always surrounding the band). Yet, here it is 4 days away from the show and there are still prime seats available. The concert isn't even half sold out.

I purchased GREAT seats about a month ago for it. My wife & I are driving from the Detroit area to the concert just because it could be their last show ever. You'd think a lot of folks would be willing to make the drive for such a monumental event.

Oh well, I can't wait for the concert. I'll try sneaking in my digital camera to see if I can get some good pictures/videos of the band. Hopefully they do something special for the last night. But seeing as how the show isn't half sold, I'm betting they perform their allotted time and leave. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's extra special, though.

You have no idea how sold it is or isn't. Just because prime seats are coming up NOW does not mean that the place isn't mostly sold out.

Didn't they tack on one more date in Minnesota after the GR show??
"Make no mistake. Eddie Van Halen can still kick your ass. The man who single-handedly changed the face of rock is still mean, lean, and sharp as a tack. And if you dispute the ownership of the crown, try to imagine a world without him."~~Billy Corgan/Guitar World (April 1996)

"There's a plaque on our wall that says we've sold over 65 million albums, and I don't feel I've accomplished anything. I feel like I'm just getting started."~~Edward Van Halen

What venues do a lot of times is release seats in segments and bunches, and dfferent ticket "outlets" will get seats from different sections of the venue. Many times, ticketmaster for example, will release "good" seats just prior to a concert that may have been reserved for publicity/radio/venue promotions, etc. There is a very high chance your show is 3/4 sold, at least.

Easy there, Sparky. Guy was just asking a question.

In response to the thread starter, perhaps it's just the venue throwing out some extra seats they'd held back for awhile? Those things happen. I'm sure that your show will be pretty packed.

Grand Rapids was known for two things; automobile parts and furniture. The furniture is lost to the Chinese, and the automotive is in trouble because of overcapacity and gas prices.

Possibly the economy plays into ticket sales if they are in fact slow.

I dunno.... they've been running radio spots here in Lansing promoting the show - I barely listen to radio an hour a day, yet I've heard the spot several times. Made me wonder if they were having trouble selling tickets - why else would Live Nation be spending money on radio spots?

If I weren't going to a conference for work next week, I'd go to GR in a second. We had a blast in Det. in Oct. and I'd love to see them one more time.

You are right - if they were close to full they wouldn't waste $ on radio spots.

Not your problem though - enjoy the show anyone who's going. I usually look at the stage not any empty seats - and of course anyone local who is too broke for tickets should just show up at the arena and score a $20 ducat.

Van Halen Filming For Upcoming Live Release

Van Halen will be filming select dates of their current tour and the footage will then be released in an upcoming live DVD. Last week's gig at the Izod Center, East Rutherford, New Jersey, was the first show to be filmed for the release, according to vocalist David Lee Roth.

    In other Van Halen news, Eddie Van Halen recently revealed that he feels "excellent" following a health scare in March of this year. The details of the scare were never revealed to public, but Eddie says;

"I feel excellent. I'm healthier than I've ever been. It's wonderful."

Well that's good to hear, in regards to both the release of an upcoming live DVD and of course, Eddie Van Halen's health.

i live in toronto and am considering driving out to the show, it's about 6 hours away. it's a shame it's in such a run down part of michigan though, detroit is like hell on earth, but west michigan isn't much better.....lots of burned out buildings, dark clouds, and general bleakness, even on sunny days out there.
