Thyroid cancer, anyone have any experience with this?

My wife has been battling something for years with fatigue, weight, all sorts of things and we have been to more places than we can count with things like lupus, fibromyalgia, Chrones, on and on. A couple of weeks ago, we finally went to a local hospital and she had a complete body MRI and they drew a half gallon of blood, she jokes about, but not really obviously, and did all sorts of tests.

We got the call yesterday that she has at the very least thyroid cancer, which if caught early is supposedly quite treatable. We go and talk about our next move June 10, but in the mean time, we have been doing a lot of research, but would like to hear from someone that has had any experience at all with this.

There are several things involved, she is extremely low in b-12, which causes all sorts of stuff to go haywire.

Anyhow, I actually hope noone has gone through this, but if you have, please share your experiences.

I can't offer any valuable insight but I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. I hope and pray that the doctors are able take care of the problem.

I was diagnosed with three malignant nodes on my thyroid glands several years ago, while I lived in LA. I was given an experimental medication but it made me so sick my endocrinologist took me off the medication. He said that thyroid cancer is so slow moving that it would never have a chance to kill me. Since then, I have had twice yearly checkups but the nodes have not grown noticably larger.

I hope your wife is diagnosed expertly and that she feels better soon.

Thank you for the prayers and thoughts.

We aren't sure at all what they will do for this, but will find out on the 10th of June.

    Thank you again!

a very good friend of mine was diagnosed a couple of years ago... had it removed, went into treatment and he's very healthy nowadays.

he has to take hormonies on a daily basis, but besides that... he's completly recovered. he used to say that the doctor told him that if he was to be diagnosed cancer and he was to choose one, thyroid would be the one. easy to cure and low chances to have it again.

i wish you both the best!

Depends on the type of thyroid cancer. If your wife had the more serious type (which I'm betting Six's friend had), I'd think you'd already be in treatment - it would be immediate.

I've had a friend that had hers removed and she's done excellent, I have another that had very slow growing nodes.... she too, is doing well.

    Keep us posted! Many prayers!!!!

Thanks again everyone. We spent a few days at the great wolf lodge in KC just hanging out with the kids and relaxing. From everything we can find, it looks good. We have been together for so many years it seems like forever, the typical high school sweetheart thing fits us to a T. I met her when I was 17 and she was 13 and never broke up, so the unthinkable at this age is just that.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

A friend went thru it 10 or so yrs ago. She had surgery + radiation & is in remission doing great. Absolutely do as much research as you can & be informed when you see Dr.'s. Ask EVERY question you have, regardless of how small it may seem to you.

Praying for you & your wife.

Will do man, thanks. We go this Tuesday for a nuclear scan and she gets a massive dose of b-12.
