    Default Your Van Halen fantasy

Note to Kimmie5150 - it is not what you think - kidding

Since EVH said this is a new band. And since rock bands that are at least a decade older are still bringing the pain, VH has a lot of life. As fans, what do you want to see? Obviously, a ton of new music. Or would you rather see the eternal tour, a la Rolling Stones and Jimmy Buffett? A "Behind the Music", a VH "Rattle and Hum", or that full Oakland show?

Here is my fantasy: one day Ed takes out his 10 albums + worth of music. Dave and Sam conduct a draft on which music they want to write lyrics to. An album is produced with 5 Dave tracks and 5 Sam tracks. Dave and Sam hate each other enough to write lyrics that don't resemble "I'm on a Roll" or most anything off of "Your Filthy Little Mouth." The winner? The fans!

    (2) A Sam and Dave tour with Van Halen.

    (3) When EVH/AVH decide to retire, they have a 3 hour blow-out concert at the LA Coliseum with Sam, Dave, Gary, and Mike (Mark Stone plays on at least one song.) Note: the serious Linkers get a backstage pass and a meet-and-greet (LMR5150, too).

    (4) Wolf creates Van Halen Mach II - the classic Van Halen sound combined with whatever his musical genius creates.

    (5) A Constitutional amendment is ratified banning any public or private performance of "Eagles Fly" - sorry, I hate that song and it just came on un-radio.

Again, it is a fantasy. But Shania Twain has been mine for a decade - and guess who is single?
I don't have a cool signature. Deal with it!

Sad thing is...at this point...I don't have any more dreams about what this band might do...

    1) They release a new album....yeah great! I'd buy it....but Ed still fucked up the band.

    2) They do a Sam and Dave headlining tour....Yeah so who plays bass? Mikey's gonna play with Sam, Ed and Al....and when Dave is on...Wolfie plays with Ed and Al? Ughhh..Ya...NO!

    3) Wolfie forms VH Mach II.....................................Oh Lord....What's gonna come out of the speakers? NOTHING?!?!?!

    4) A One Off Gig....Yeah that would be cool....but very very sad....but it would probably be funny because Ed would say, "This is only the tip of the ice-cube....wait until we get to the Ice-berg

Good points. I can't disagree. That is why it is a fantasy.

I just came up with another one: After Ed passes away and I win the Powerball Lottery, Wolf sells me all of the DAT tapes and unreleased crap from the vault, I then enjoy it and post it on the internet for all of the Linkers to enjoy and/or criticise.

    My ultimate VH fantasy?

A World Tour as a "Farewell Tour," if you will, featuring two opening acts: The first act would be a band Wolf forms, playing original material and covers. The second act would be Extreme, giving Gary the proper recognition as a part of Van Halen's history. No one would want to see him front the band again live, so have him open with the band he always worked better with.

Following those opening acts, Sam, Ed, Al, and Mike take the stage for a 15 song set of tunes from the Hagar years, celebrating that era of the band and killing it off first. Following that would be seemingly the majority's favorite era, the Roth years, an 18 song set (songs are generally shorter) featuring Dave, Ed, Al, and Mike.

After this, a three song encore would be played, featuring a Sam song, a Dave song, and the final song having all of them (yes, even Gary and Wolf) on the same stage for the grand finale. Even if it's just a performance of "Jump," I think that'd be pretty cool.

    Talk about a dream, eh?

    Simple.

Get Mike back and release a new album(with Dave).

    That's all.

If you don't care anymore, why are U still here - I know you are the guru of the site and I appreciate it. But if there is no hope for VH, take your 11 albums and go home.

#1. Fair Warning was a commercial flop bro, VH's lowest selling album at the time. It wasn't seen as a great album when it was released at all. Where are you getting that story from?

#2. I do not hate Wolfgang, where are you getting that from?

#3. You don't want the site anymore? Ok. Noted. If I go, it goes, it's pretty simple.

#4. There is plenty of hope for VH. It doesn't involve Wolfgang Van Halen however.

I am not trying to piss you off. I am still a newby, and don't have much pull. Let me put it another way, assuming MA is not part of the proceedings, what would you like to see?

BTW, I love the site and what you do for it. But it seems to me that there are 2 choice: (1) A website that loves the past, but looks to the future or (2) a nostalgia site that focuses on the past. If I am wrong, make fun of me for the idiot that I am. Otherwise, acknowledge that I make a valid pount.
