    Solar hot water system

Anybody have first-hand experience with a solar hot water system??

Particularly in the Northeast/New England region?

Funny you should mention this. I looked into doing this last year about this time. After talking to several people who have the solar heater system on their home, it seemed as though it was roughly a 50/50 split on those who would "do it again." A couple even had issues about 5 or 6 years ago with lines splitting overnight after an extended cold snap froze the water in the lines.

Right now, I'm awaiting the results of my cousin's tank-less water heater that is supposed to be installed next week. It supposedly saves a ton of money over a tank unit in energy costs and there is reportedly zero drop in temp even if you have several people taking showers back to back. We shall see.

as far as the tankless heater i work for a company that has put alot of those in taco bells, and they are set at 199,000 btu's and they are the best at keeping water hot at constant use
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

This is what my cousin is having installed. Not sure whether he ended up opting for the Tempra 24 or the Tempra 29 though.

Tankless water heaters are great but they do not save very much energy. When you are taking a shower the system has to still create a flame to heat the water. A few months ago I spent 2 days at tankless water heater school.

I am not saying they are a horrible system, but they are not everything the marketing companys say they are.

They do save a lot of space and are slightly less expensive to run than a normal hot water tank. Parts for a tankless system can be difficult to get and they are expensive to work on. I was told by a expert on these systems that if the heat exchanger goes out or cracks you have to replace the entire system.

If I had gas at my house I would consider one though.

And thats about what its worth.

You don't know the half of it. I worked in a pet store and people would ask how big I would get.

When I lived in Odessa, Tx there were several houses in our neighborhood that had black PVC-type tubing on the roof as pre-heater type system.

I never found out how effective they were, but I imagine it had to help.
