Default Burned out on the job -- what to do

Interesting article. It describes me to a "T":

Yeah, me too. I have been given some different jobs to do, but I don't get to do them often enough, and seem to still be stuck in the same old grind.

Add in the recent breakup, and it's been a tough couple of weeks to say the least. But, I shall soldier on!

"Soon't be afraid to make the jump to a better career".

That last sentence says it all. Not usually easy but just making that decision and then working towards it makes life feel so much better and makes your current job feel less of a prison.

I feel so lucky in that both careers I have had so far I have enjoyed immensely, even though being a guitarist didn't pay too well most of the time. 6 years into my second career and I still often look forward to each new day of work. Compared to some of my friends, I feel extremely fortunate.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

Well, look at it this way, at least your being entertained while getting paid. There always an upside to everything!!

Then again I don't think I could stand a desk job, I'm too hyper, depends on what you like doing I suppose.

I'm way past burned out at my job but can't afford to take a vacay. If I'm gone everything waits til I return. Plus I don't have the extra dough to take a vacay so I guess it doesn't really matter.

I need a nice bag of money to fall out of the sky so I can retire.

I was wayyyyyy burned out on my job. So when I got fired after 10 years of making their numbers go through the roof for not "playing along", I went to Estheticians school, used my retirement and 401k money to live on so I could spend any free time with my kids, put myself in terrible debt (people... rollover is a GOOD thing-VERY BAD thing come tax time if you don't do it) and I now am building a career that I have always loved and every ounce of HELL was worth it. I finally did something for me after 25 years of just going along to get along. I have a wonderful husband, family and career and it was worth every second of sacrifice. For the first time in my life I just jumped in with both feet and a blindfold. Looks like it's working out. I am happier than I have ever been in my life.

Wow - that's awesome! You took a chance for the better, and it's all working out. I wish I took that chance about 5 to 10 years ago....I have 20 years at my job and just need 25 to get the hell out of there - so it's too late for me now.
Thankfully I've got a computer there and TV!

Boy, I can relate to that Sunday evening stomach sickness. It's like a kid on the last day of summer break. The problem is when you are making decent jack, have a family to support and bills to pay, you can't just jump to another career without experiencing pay issues. So obviously it's complicated and usually you are stuck. It truly does destroy your life and you feel as though every day life is being sucked from you! March on lemming, march on....

Good for You! I'm looking forward to my own rumspringa! SOON! Nice to hear of others who have taken the plunge and had it be a positive experience. My house is for sale, my business is for sale, I'm starting to work on ME for a change, and I'm ready to go!

I could relate to the SUnday evening sickness to IF I EVER HAD A FREAKING DAY OFF!!!!!!!!

but you are right, it's the feeling of having another day (that you will never get back) SUCKED from you that's most devastating.
