Default Van Halen in the workplace

I work in outside sales and the other day one of the guys I work with gave me a lead. I called the company and asked for the contact. The receptionist put me on hold and lo and behold "Drop Dead Legs" came on the other end of the phone. I thought to myself, that has to be the "1984" CD because they never play "DDL" on the radio, not even here in L.A. The receptionist came back on the line with the obligatory, "Can I ask who's calling?", and when she put me back on hold "Hot For Teacher" was playing. I ended up leaving a message for the contact.

Yesterday, I saw this same sales lead sitting on a post it note on my desk and decided to give it another shot. This time the same receptionist put me on hold and "D.O.A." was playing. I thought to myself, wow, somebody at this company really likes Van Halen! The receptionist then came back on after a minute or two, put me back on hold, and there it is - "Women In Love"! When she came back on the line, I finally commented, "Somebody over there likes Van Halen." She replied, "Yeah, there's a guy over here who absolutely loves them." I responded, "Well, I can appreciate that because I absolutely love them, too!"

So she told me to call back a few minutes later so I could talk with the contact, and when I did "Everybody Wants Some!" was blasting away on the hold music. I finally got the contact on the line and found out that this company I'm calling did the staging for the current Van Halen tour, as well as the one for the 2004 tour and several other major rock-and-roll tours and television shows.

I met with the guy this morning at his business and he gave me the grand tour of the place. I asked him about the Van Halen fanatic who works there and he told me the guy wears the Eddie Van Halen red, white and black Converse tennis shoes and can play all of the VH tunes on his guitar. When I go back there sometime next week I'll have to meet the guy and see if he knows about the VH Links.

Anyways, just thought I'd share that with my fellow Linkers.

P.S. With the 25 year anniversary of the US Festival coming up in a couple of weeks, has everybody seen this clip?

That's very cool!!! And you're right they never play those deeper cuts on radio. I only hear them on Sirius Radio ( gotta love Buzzsaw)

That's a cool clip , I've seen it but it still makes me laugh watching it again!

    Thanks for the story!

I want to call that place just to listen. I wish they had that as a channel on Sirius instead of the Grateful Dead or the Stones.

That is very cool!! They play all VH here. In fact, yesterday alone I heard DDL, You're No Good, Mean Street, Eruption, and You Really Got Me.

That's a cool story!! A funny Van Halen moment happened to me today at work. My boss was having a meeting with us today in preparation for a big ops review meeting we are going to have next week with our director who's flying into town. We have prepared a lot this week for the upcoming meeting, and they advised us today that we could dress casually for the presentation just to set a more relaxed mood for the day. She then said, that doesn't mean you can come to work in your Van Halen T-Shirt! Everyone laughed and then looked at me!

As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot.

That's pretty cool. When you get put on hold at my company, you get an unholy hybrid of 70's porn music and New Age.

My company lists it's stock price quite often during the day. At one point, it was $51.50. I took a screen print and sent it to a co-worker who only rolled his eyes.
