    This from MelodicRock.com today:

VAN HALEN, EAGLES FOR GUITAR HERO 4:
    From Undercover News: www.undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=4912
by Paul Cashmere - May 14 2008 / "The first peak at who will be on Guitar Hero 4 has surfaced. Van Halen, Eagles, Linkin Park and Sublime have been confirmed for the next version of the game. Activision, the producer of Guitar Hero, will introduce a new level of activity for 4. Drums, bass, vocals and guitar will be able to be played separately in the new game. Users will be able to add their vocals to some of the songs and then upload them for others to download.
Other new components will include the ability to create your own artwork with the songs, as well as customize the guitar and drums. A release date for Guitar Hero 4 is yet-to-be announced."

because it's fun until it gets repeative, and with addition of drums should be even more fun
I used to wonder why he was grinning all the time(Michael Ian Black talkin about EVH on VH1 I love the 80's) but then i realized the reason he's grinning is because he's Eddie F*#king Van Halen

I love GH, lots of fun...I especially like beating the socks off my kids! We don't have any video games (no PS- Xbox ect...) but our neighbors do and I think we use it more than they do! Best of all you don't have to be able to play guitar to get good at it.

actually I can play these songs over and over again just trying to top my own score and it's still addicting. But I'm on expert. It's most fun on expert.

you can't get why a music video game would be fun and popular? You get video games at all? cause that would explain it.

If you've ever played Rock Band, it's awesome! Sounds like GH 4 is going to that format with the vocals and drums.

I seem to recall something I read in Feb or March about theis not being a GH4, but rather a 'Van Halen Edition' GH game. Somewhat like the Aerosmith version that is due out next month.

As for GH itself, just like any other video game, its a diversion from other things in life. While I would prefer my boys learn real guitar, I like them playing this better than some of the other mind numbing garbage that is out there.

    Cool!

The one good thing about these Rock Band and Guitar Hero games is that a younger audience is getting turned on to classic rock. My friends have Guitar Hero and their sons are all into the music now.

Of course if they ever made a VH inspired guitar game it would have to be called Super Sexy Bad Ass Guitar God because Edward is not simply a guitar hero.
    Could this be magic?

    Instruments

-There will be a new guitar, bass, microphone, and drum kit
-Guitars are no longer licensed by Gibson and are custom made
-The interviewer noticed "clear notes" that may indicate a new guitar mechanic
    -Unique bass controller
    -USB Microphone
-Drum kit has 3 pads, 2 raised cymbal pads, and a bass pedal. The pads supposedly can detect how hard you hit them.

-There is no word on whether Rock Band instruments will be compatible or vice/versa. However, this seems unlikely because of the non-compatibility issues in GH3 and the fact that the drum set has a different number of pads.

    Tracks

-There are supposed to be "more tracks than in any rhythm game ever", and the interviewer mentions "at least 70"
-The Neversoft employee claims all tracks will be masters
-Van Halen, Eagles, Linkin Park, and Sublime are confirmed to have tracks in the game.
-Dream Theater is mentioned, but not confirmed to have a song.

    Character/Instrument Creator

-Have the ability to create rockers, instruments, and logos, much like in Tony Hawk
-The classic GH characters are also available

    Career Mode

-There will be a world-tour style career mode where you choose a location and tracks you want to play at that venue, similar to Rock Band
-Unlike Rock Band, the interviewee claimed that you will "never be playing the same tracks over and over"
-There are separate career modes for at least guitar, bass, and drum (possibly vocals)
-The drum tour will add "drum solo" sections where the camera zooms in on a drummer and allows a freestyle solo

    Music Creator

-Jam Over mode - you can go into an on-disc song and remix the sounds with a free form jam, much like in Amplitude. This mode will not include vocals.
-After creating the remix, you can return to normal play mode and play the new note chart.

-Advanced Studio mode - a program, said to be like Apple's Garage Band, that will allow you to create your own music tracks, along with note charts for them
-Has an editor for guitar which can reportedly do electric or acoustic notes with a variety of sound effects, one for drums that has a normal drum kit along with Latin percussion instruments, and a keyboard editor that you can use to replace vocal tracks (which are not supported, for copyright and data storage issues)
-Each person will be allowed to upload 5 tracks, and if you receive positive reviews, you may be able to up load 10 or more

EDIT: Some additions, thanks to SpacemanHardy

-The new "Easy Rhythm" mode for kids and newbies, where instead of having to push in frets, you simply strum along to the wide bars that are normally used for the bass drum.
-The old guitar controllers will still work. However, they say that you might miss out on some of the new play mechanics.
-The boss battles are back, but they've been altered significantly. They are less about attacking and more about playing the song back and forth.
-Their will be more special guest (real artists), but no one has been announced.
-Every instrument is wireless out of the box.
-Star power for the drums can be activated at any time by crashing both cymbals at once.
-GH3 Battle Mode is still in the game, but it's only for multiplayer and online now
-The wide bars will be used during the bass segments to signify "open string", meaning that you strum without pushing in a fret, adding a new spin to how the bass is played.

that sounds awesome. being a wii owner, rock band has yet to come out. It's scheduled for june. But with this coming out ..and already owning and being quite good at guitar hero III...there's no reason I ever have to buy rock band. And that's fine with me since the wii version will be gimped anyway.

Do I get video games? Let's see I have a stand-up video machine with 5,000 arcade games, an Xbox, an Xbox 360, and my old Intellivision that I've had since in 1979. Meanwhile along the way also having when they were popular NES, SNES, and Playstation 1.

I'd say I get video games.

I DON'T get Guitar Hero. I guess I need to be a non-musician to really enjoy it.

I was just asking...purely out of curiosity. No offense

I didn't know if you were too old or something.

I was born the year NES came out so I've been playing video games almost since birth. We got our NES in 87.

I'm a musician without an instrument. And I always wished I could play guitar and piano. But I don't own either and I might not have the hands for them. But I get a great deal of enjoyment from GH and it's quicker and easier to master with less frustration I'm sure.

No worries, didn't really mean to jump on ya.

I am old, but my generation IS the video game generation.

Like I said, I think it's far more enjoyable for people who don't play guitar. I've played it and laughed, "Ok so I can play this on regular guitar with my eyes closed, but not on a video game. Something is wrong with this picture."
