One of the funniest shows ever.

It was never as funny as during the Wayne Rogers/McLean Stevenson years, IMO...

One of the best shows on TV, EVER!! I have the 1st couple of seasons on DVD and need to get the rest. Toward the end, it got a little maudlin with Hawkeye's constant preaching, but still fuckin great!
But since I can see this turning into a Sam vs Dave / Col Blake vs Col Potter thing...
IMHO, the best seasons were the 1 or 2 (cant remember) with Potter & Burns.

Maj Burns: Colonel, Im the company trash officer...
Col Potter: We all know THAT, Burns

    I miss Ferret Face...
"Look, I'll pay you for it, what the f**k?!"

"If I don't make her happy in the bedroom the wife gets bitchy for days at a time, but when I come to bed ready for action she laughs and laughs. She even laughs while I make my moves so I know I must be pleasing her as only I can do."

Awesome show. Like Cheers, they simply don't make them like that anymore.

One of my favorites has to be when Potter orders Hawkeye and BJ to befriend Burns. When Burns passes out, they toe tag him and later he staggers out and falls into an ambulance only to end up close to the front.

When Potter questions Hawk and BJ about it, they tell Potter that they adressed him, but didn't mail him. Gotta love that.

I dunno, I liked it when the series took a more serious turn in the later years. I mean, this was a sitcom based on the frickin' Korean war. Not as bad as Hogan's Heroes, but still...borderline.

Who can forget Hawkeye and Hotlips' first kiss while under fire?

But the last episode, Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen, where Hawkeye's losing it 'cause he's repressed the memory of a mother smothering her baby so that Korean soldiers won't discover all the war refugees on the bus....those scenes with Alan Alda and the actors who played the shrink Sydney....some of the finest acting ever on the small screen.

"You son of a bitch. Why did you make me remember that?"

I believe MASH holds the distinction of being the first TV show ever which used the term 'son of a bitch,' which was pretty shocking for the time. I remember it as a kid. It was before the last episode, though. I think Hawkeye called a Korean officer a son of a bitch 'cause they were going to torture the woman he'd just patched up or something like that.

MASH was the shit, no doubt about it.

I watched MASH all the time and it was hilarious! The things those guys would do to Frank - the Lipless Wonder.

I'm partial to the early years myself. Klinger was hilarious in all his get-ups.

I disagree with most of you. I think the Potter/BJ/Winchester years were the best. Much more sophisticated comedy mixed in with the slapstick. The last episode in its entirety was sublime. The final scene as Hawkeye ascends in the helicopter and sees that BJ has spelled out, "Goodbye" with boulders ...smashing.

MASH is timeless. I like all era's of MASH the same, each brought something different to the table.

I cant say I think one TV show is the best of all time, MASH would make the top 5 for sure, actually it would make the top 3 ever.

    AMEN!!!

I have the first three season's on DVD and nothing comes close.

Any M*A*S*H fan should read the novel as well.

Henry, Trapper and Frank were the best!!!

The latter years are (of course) watchable but became sooooo sappy and lame. Seriously, they just became a pulpit for Mike Farrell and Alan Alda's wimpiness agendas. It's just too bad that both McLean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers asked out of their five year contracts two years early.

Again and the similarities with VH also apply with this show cos if one wanders onto most MASH sites, there are always Trapper/BJ and Henry/Potter disputes and just like with Roth/Hagar, the early years are always and overwhelmingly the victor.

Why doesn't this surprise me and especially cos I've been referring to you as the "Frank Burns" of this site for years?!?!?!? lmao

Also, I've always considered the later years of the show like the Van Hagar years of VH. Meaning, high in the ratings but a shadow of what made it so good in the first place.

Read the original novel by Richard Hooker (An actual draftee surgeon at a real MASH in Korea) and you'll find that many of the earlier shows were A LOT closer to what the actual doctors went through in Korea than the later and wimpier one's written to fulfill both Alan Alda's and Mike Farrell's wimpy and crybaby agendas. He (Hooker) was actually sickened with how far from what really took place was altered in the latter years of the show. He praised the first few years of the show though, btw.

Seriously, read the novel, you'll get a new spin on the show (even after all these years) and realize how much more realistic the original plots written by Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds were.
