New Cabinet Advice For My 5150

    Hey Guys,

I'm sure there's thread after thread of what cabinets are the best, but I need some help for my unique situation. I was originally gonna save up and get the new 5150III, but I really like my original head and I figure a new cab will do the trick. I have a 5150 block letter head and I've played through a Marshall MG cab, a Randall cab and a Crate cab with this amp throughout the years, but I'm just not digging it. I'm on a very fixed income this summer as I'm paying for school again in the fall so I gotta watch my expenditures. I can do anything under $1,000.

I definitely want a straight cabinet and I've come down to the Peavey 6505 straight cabinet and the Marshall 1960 straight cab. Both are around the $700-$800 range, perfect for me. Can anyone tell me which one would be better for my situation? Or if there are any other recommendations under a grand that would match the 5150 nicely, please do let me know. I do not play metal or anything like that, I'm pure hard rock, classic rock etc. Thanks in advance guys!!

Another idea that popped in my head...

I can get Greenbacks from music123.com for 109.99 each, free shipping. Should I go this route and get 4 greenbacks and just install them in my existing cabinet? hmmm....

Amazing cabs, awesome price, comes with Celestions. I have their closed-back 2x12 with Vintage 30's, sounds amazing.

Man, that's sick!!! I've never seen this site before. Awesome. Would u suggest the greenbacks or the vintage 30's to match up with my 5150? Does this site ship to Canada?

I put V30s in my 5150 Combo, and I was extremely happy with the result. Of course, everyone's ear is different, but I thought it was a vast improvement.

My lead guitar player had a 2x12 cabinet from Avatar with a G12H30 and a Vintage 30, and it sounded pretty cool.

Another option that could be interesting is a Budda Cabinet. I think it's called a 1012. It has 2x10s and 2x12s. Haven't heard one, but it seems like it could be pretty cool.

I have always enjoyed the 5150 cab. It is supposed to be modeled after Eddies' favorite cab and have super accurate greenback clones. The Marshall 1960's cab sound good too. It has a little more mids then the 5150.

i use both the original 5150 straight cab and a marshall 1960 with celestion greenbacks in it
i tend to prefer the marshall for classic rock and punk gigs but for the newer metal stuff the 5150 cab is what i use....of course theres gigs when i need both so i run an a/b box for switching cabinets
my suggestion would be to try as many cabs/speaker combinations as you can even if this means dragging you 5150 head to music stores with you, if they're serious they'll let you plug it in if they think they're gonna get some kind of purchase outa you....experimant and dont be tied to just a couple of options.

Might want to check out warehousespeakers: http://www.warehousespeakers.com/pro...bd108832c47ef6

They have copies of V30s and Greenbacks. I use their Veteran 30's and I think it sounds better than Celestion V30s. And the price is right too.

Excellent suggestion. You can usually find these on eBay too.
