Default 1990 - One boring year!!!!

Going back on VHs history, 1990 was really quiet. It was, at that point....VHs quietest year. There were even reports in our local TV mag "TV Week" that Roth had secretly came back........., We all know now that in 1990 they had opened up the "Cabo Wabo" that year, but there was no coverage or news of it over here in australia, nothing at all. It was'nt until early 1991 when I picked up our local metal mag "Hot metal" that they had been in the studio recording with Andy Johns and the album was to be released in June.

These were the days when the net had'nt surfaced still, and we were left in the dark. Honestly, 1990 was a "dark" year. There was no mention of VH at all, and I'm pretty sure our local "TV week" brought up the Roth Return as just something to talk about.
What is understood need not be discussed

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

Sorry if I sound like a real idiot, but does it even matter that 1990 was a boring year? It was 18 years ago...

Actually back in 1990 there were rumors going around that Van halen had broken up.

A kid in my school drew a shattered VH logo because of the rumour.

Van Halen suffered from the fate every band did...they had to take time out to change the lineup and realised they liked it.

DLR leaves in 1985, they have no album release in the gap between 1984/1986. The band then did the same in 1987, 1990. Then they did a live album and a mini-tour (only 60 dates) in 1993 as a way of making cash and delaying writing a new album (quick, easy way to make money and I know they weren't getting along at this point so probably wanted some time appart)....as soon as that was done they took 1994 off.

The band didn't intend to do a new album or new tour in 1996 either, though stuff changed the ball game at that point anyway.

It happens with lots of bands. Iron Maiden were releasing albums every other year (86, 88, 90, 92) then had to take 94 off cuz their singer got in a car crash....then they did albums in 95, 98, 00 (it was brought ahead a year due to the band's reunion with classic lineup), 03, 06, 09 (planned timescale).

Van Halen II got certified 4x Platinum that year. Weirdly, it was the only thing they got checked for certification in 1990.

There was a story in Rip Magazine (hey, the Internet wasn't always around) in1990 that Dave was coming back and Sammy was staying in as a second guitarist! I never read the magazine again.
    Van Halen shows attended:
    08/21/91, 06/29/93
    08/02/93, 04/22/95
    07/18/95, 05/17/98
    07/25/98, 07/02/04
    11/11/04, 10/10/07
    03/09/12, 03/30/12

    David Lee Roth shows attended:
    07/24/91, 05/29/02 - opening night
    09/06/03

    Sammy Hagar shows:
    07/19/97, 06/04/99
    01/05/01, 09/09/01
    05/29/02 - opening night

Ok, so there wasn't much Van Halen excitment in 1990 except for the Cabo opening, but we were graced with the arrival of the one and only "Vanilla ICE"!!!!!!!

Since F.U.C.K. came out in June of 1991, I believe that a lot of the music for the album was written in 1990 (except for Right Now and Top of the World , which were written in the 70s).

Besides, in 1990, I was a horny HS junior trying to get girls to fall in love with a debate-geek who thought that WCTBL was the height of romantic poetry.
I don't have a cool signature. Deal with it!

Indeed many of us are quite ashamed of what we considered to be romantic poetry in our youth--and beyond that for some (see the VH Wedding Influence thread currently in Main: http://www.vhlinks.com/vbforums/vh-i...s-t43737.html).

Sammy was required by contract to make one last solo record which he did with Ed in 1987. 88/89 = OU812 record, tour. 90 = Ed designed new Music Man guitar & VH opened Cabo Wabo. I'm pretty sure the band was working up ideas for F.U.C.K. also in 90. Pretty busy if you ask me.
