The Somebody Get Me A Doctor medley 2007/8

    harmonica intro/SGMD/I Don't Need No Doctor/??????/SGMD(reprise),,,

This a here medley is the absolute highlight of the tour fo' me nah nah yez.

At the gig I attended, the tune after I Don't Need No Doctor was Spoonful. What tune did you get?

I've seen Crossroads, Born Under A Bad Sign, Mississippi Queen, and Rocky Raccoon mentioned,,,any others one time?? Well well well...

This tour conjurs up old school Cream, Humble Pie, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis(like Elvis jamming with Jimi Hendrix and John Bonham), and natch'lly, Shecky Green.
ASHES TO ASHES...DUST TO DUST...IF THE WOMEN DON'T GET YA, THE WHISKEY MUST!!...

"I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints," he explained. 'The only thing that I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues. I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago, and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker."--DLR

If you pay attention -- what I sing, the guitar sings, too, and what the guitar says, I say.--Mississippi Fred McDowell

Except John Paul Jones never faked playing his bass.

This tour conjures up some Milli Vanilli too.

That said, the Spoonful/Magic Bus medleys were cool, but too short. Shoulda covered the whole songs.

My highlight was, amazingly enough, And the Cradle Will Rock. For some reason it sounded just epic in San Diego.

He's not wrong. Watch some footage from bootlegs. Sometimes it's so obvious that he ISN'T playing.

The SGMAD medley was cool when I saw it, because it was still "new." Then it got annoying because it lost it's spontaneity, thus becoming another line in the script.

What made VH live so appealing back in the day is that, they could break into a spontaneous jam and make it special each time, instead of trying to pass it off as spontaneous but doing it every single night. It just doesn't feel authentic to me, which is disappointing.

Listen, McLovin, the SGMAD medley is still heavier than heaven. There have been a whole lotta different versions of it on this a here tour-a!

Where's your positively positive belligerent enthusiasm?

Are these memos coming from the desk of Dennis Anthony?

It's a real bass, he just ain't playing it.

He definitely isn't playing 100% of the time. It is pretty obvious guys, it's not a conspiracy, and it shouldn't change your enjoyment of the show if you don't mind that. It just is what it is though.

Precisely. Enjoy the show. It is what it is. Can't get much simpler than that.

Don't wanna get all grammatical on yo ass, but I can make it simpler.

    It is, is.

    Freaky, huh?

As for the boys and their supposed history of launching into impromptu jams, I'm not sure that's a fact. Capable? Of course. But any band's "off-the-cuff" stuff usually amounts to "Hey (insert city here), you're louder than shit tonight!"

Had we YouTube access to every show in the early '80s, I suspect we would've seen that the gigs then were as interchangeable as they are today. I speculate, of course.

VH was a pretty scripted band when Dave was fronting it. Most of the shows were the same thing every night. They like to make it seem that they had some unscripted jams, but they never really did except Ed and Al playing around during SGMAD.

Scripted banter and 'impromptu' jams are one thing. We all know most bands outline and plan each and every moment of a gig no matter how spontaneous it seems. That's show biz, and Dave knows it well.

But air-bassing is an altogether different deal.

Why would any Roth-only fan care if Wolf was really playing or not? D-Ro's back.
