Unreleased Van Halen? I Have My Doubts, So You Tell Me...

These tracks appeared out of nowhere yesterday, posted by a guy named bossk7 and another fellow named noxtatia. These are allegedly unreleased VH tracks, yet I'm tempted to call BS on a couple of them, as the tone and playing just do not seem correct. No recording info was offered, either. As a result, you be the judge, and take this stuff with a grain of salt.

Van Halen "The Water Sings" Unreleased (:35)

Unreleased Van Halen "Can't Get Away From You" (:37)

Van Halen Unreleased "Close Encounters" (2:19)

I ain't buying it. First off the second song sounds like disco. Second almost all of the early demo stuff in some way surfaces in songs that were on the albums such as riffs, etc.., i.e voodoo queen, house of pain, last night. I didn't hear anything like that here. I agree chef bullshit!

Judging by the first one and the last one...I call BULLSHIT!

But the 2nd one, the ending solo sounded like Ed playing...but probably somebody else.

I don't think that these are VH, but, listening to 'The Water Sings' helped ease my menstrual cramps.

    Default LMFAO!!!! WTF?

Here's my opinion, the first song sounds like someone was trying to rip off Neworld from VHIII and it's obviously not VH. The second song does sound like Eddie at the end, but the bass and drums sound nowhere near VH musically. The last song sounds like a Nuno Bettencourt wannabe but miserably failed.

"The Water Sings" is EVH with Rich Wyman. EVH did play on "Can't Get Away From You".

That's right.....Ed did play on Rich Wyman's album in 1996 and co-produced 4 songs and played. Good record. Don't know about the last song though.....sounded like another poser wannabe.

OK. It appears the "Can't Get Away From You" clip was merely an edit from an old and nearly forgotten Nicolette Larson track. Here's the full version, with EVH's solo in the break..

Other than the one song being Nicolette Larson that is Eddie's solo, the last thing is just noise and not VH in any way.

Too bad Ted Templeman didn't date around more... if he had we would've had more EVH tunage from that era!

That Nicolette Larson tune was the payback for her singing backups on Could This Be Magic....just FYI.

There's lots of these oddball Eddie one-offs floating around....I've got some shit he did with Thomas Dolby, Roger Waters, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips, Scandal, Dweezil Zappa....etc.

Not to mention the Wild Life and Starfleet stuff.

All in all, there's some tasty stuff involved, but some that seemed a little out of Ed's element as well.
