    Default question about inlays

(because I don't want my question to get lost in another thread i'm starting a new one)

Here's another question if anyone can answer.

I've got my eyes on ES 335 satin finish ---it's right in my price range. HOWEVER I'm not a fan of the dot inlays---->isn't it against the law to have a Gibson without the big blocks?

My question is, if I was to get that 335 at some point down the road is there a way to get those dot inlays changed to blocks and if so how much would that probably run me?

Yes, it is possible to have dot inlays changed to block inlays. It may run you anywhere from 200.00 to $400.00, depending on the luthier you take it to.

You can purchase block inlays from stewart-mcdonald.

Personally, I would leave the inlays alone, but that's just my .00000002 worth.

To do it properly, you'd have to pull the frets in order to level out all the new inlays, then install all new frets.

There's a whole lotta labor involved.
You'd be very lucky to find someone willing to do it for $400 IMO.
