Default Air mattress for camping - Do they all suck?

Anyone here use an air mattress they would recommend? Every year I go through this dilemma of finding one that stays inflated and every year I end up wasting my money on these piece of shit mattresses that leave you lying on the ground by the middle of the night.

I thought an AeroBed would be the answer to my problem but the reviews are overwhelmingly bad, which really surprised me.

I can't be the only one here with this problem, right? Can anyone help?

Air mattresses are a semi-annual purchase for me. I don't like them but my wife insists. Seems no matter how much money we spend and how careful we are, it lasts but a couple of years before holes develop. I think part of the problem for me/wife is that if both of us are on the thing, inevitably the weight distribution is going be such as to stress the seams. The only thing I've found that lengthens their life is to not over-fill them which is a constant argument with my wife because she wants the thing as firm has our home bed.

I bought a Coleman air mattress 3 years ago at Walmart and it is by far the best one I have ever owned. It does not loose air and is quit comfortable. It is very similar to this one.

I am an air mattress nazi. I hate them but when camping I insist on having one - I don't particularly like camping for this reason.

Anyway, I digress, how about using 2 single mattresses? Unless well, you are gonna be gettin' frisky in the wild? We don't cause the kids are there with us... SO 2 mattresses work for us and it makes the bed king size (with no disturbing the other person).

The kids usually sleep on the auto inflate cushion things, they aren't thick enough for me. Kinda like the Princess and the Pea - I do not want to feel rocks in my back at night

We have the Coleman ones from Target or Walmart (can't remember)

I bought a Coleman air mattress 2 years ago and it's been just fine (knock on wood). And, although I don't like shopping there, I bought it at Wal-Mart as well.
I used to never have any luck with air mattresses but this one's been alright so far.

We don't do the camping thing, but we have a few of these for hurricane season when we all group in the living room for the worst parts of the storm. Had them since '04 without an issue.

We bought two COLEMAN air mattresses about 3 years ago and haven't had one problem since then. They rarely lose air, as most do overnight and they're friggin comfortable! I highly recommend the COLEMAN.

The Coleman models are quite durable. I can honestly state that we never had one returned for punctures when I was working retail a few years ago.

    Yup. Coleman.

Had ours for three years now. After the second night I think it loses a little pressure now so I'll be picking up a new one. I did have one before this that popped, but that was because my wife and I were doing things that were most likely not covered under warranty. ...and that sucked. I remember cruising 90 miles back in to town to get another one at a wal mart I had spotted on the way in. I got pulled over for doing 87 in a 55. Huge ticket. No seatbelt and expired registration. 530 dollars later I had my fucking mattress .

Yeah, i second this. I have one similar to this, although i picked one up at Target for like $35 bucks i believe. I had to get the queen since i'm taller, but man i remember sleeping on cots and my feet hanging off the edge. Hated those.

I may have to try the Coleman myself later this summer....I seriously would like to find one that doesn't require inflating on a daily basis. It seems like every camping trip that I take I'm left with two options before going to bed: Pissing everyone else off by firing up my air compressor late at night, or hand pumping for what seems like hours while totally exhausted and in the bag.

Coleman. The ones we've got have proven quite durable. Before kids, Mrs. Ted & I used them several times a year camping. Never any problems even during wild tent-monkey sex. But, we're always religious about how we put away all of our gear so it doesn't mildew, dry-rot etc. so that probly helps too.

Self-inflating pads are the way to go. They're just as comfortable and far more durable. If I'm going by myself or with the guys, it's what I take.

Women complicate things. I've got a queen size Coleman that I've had a for a few years. It's alright, but it needs to have more air put into it each day. For whatever reason, the big air mattress seems to be a necessity if you have a woman in the tent. Every other trip I have to patch the damn thing.

I'm really looking forward to my first trip in May.
