I bought this cover off iTunes just this morning. I don't think it's half bad, actually, though I'm no Fall Out Boy or John Mayer fan.

However, the distinction of Michael Jackson's Beat It as the Holy Grail of Eddie Van Halen solos, is somewhat dubious.

Holy Grail? It's not even a VH song. Whatever.

When I saw the thread title,I thought that Fall Out Boy and John Mayer had decided to replicate the 1981 Oakland concert.

Anyone got a link to this song? I'd like to give my ears a little pain this morning.

I've looked for it, but just like every Easter since I was a kid, I can't find the eggs!

Good cover, but how is this the holy grail? At least on a Van Halen forum?
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

I hear ya. In truth the live version is a tad better, as the vocals are higher in pitch and the tune ends before the solo. Mayer did a passable job on the studio version, yet his efforts are not anything anyone of us could have equaled, let alone surpassed.

Oddly enough, the lack of a solo section in this version puts into startling relief how light-weight this song actually is, as the drama and poignancy are greatly diminished in it's absence.

Eddie's solo on that song is one the best. Mayer's was ok but the song really needed the fire that Eddie provided on it.
