    "Between Us Two"

Sammy once referred to this song as "the greatest song Ed and I ever wrote". Supposedly, some copies of it do exist, but I have never heard any. It was supposedly ready to go but never released. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a copy?

According to this interview (http://www.vhlinks.com/pages/interviews/sh/gw0497.php) Hagar claims that both is this and "Humans Being" were finished for the "Twister" soundtrack. I've read that parts of this song have turned up in other tunes, ranging from a song on a Hagar solo album to a track on VHIII.

I'd like to hear the damned thing myself, as it's been referred to as VH's "Stairway To Heaven" (take that as you will ).

For Ed Van Halen's side of recording the song, there is this...http://www.vhlinks.com/pages/interviews/evh/gw1296.php

Heh, I've got ten copies sitting on the shelf collecting dust. j/k

This topic comes up about once a year it seems. I'm not the expert on
the subject, but I think some of the music got used for "Year to the Day."

Not sure about an actual recording anywhere. If you find one, please let us know--I'd sure like to hear it.

However, please don't let me know if you find a copy of any "Why? Because Why" duet between EVH and Wolfgang!

I remember some comment by Sammy that this song was split in two between he and Eddie. It became the song "Returning of the Wish" from his Red Voodoo album and "Year to the Day" from VH III.

If they ever reform and re-record that song, I bet it would be amazing...

The first version of "Between Us Two" was finished for Twister, but it may not have been mixed. The "re-do" Ed was talking about in the '96 interview was when they were thinking about using it (with some of Glen Ballard's lyrics) for the Best Of CD. They never finished the second version.

It exists. I'd be quite curious to hear it.

I would think Bruce Fairbairn's widow/estate have a copy of the song since he was involved in its production - and they would be the easiest to get a leak from.
Sammy mentioned the first version was "finished" and I'll take his word for it.

I thought by this point, Glen Ballard was already at the helm?

I could be very wrong, but I could swear Sam attributed some of the song's greatness to Ballard.

I do expect a leak someday, though not someday soon. If and when it comes, I don't know what to expect. I'd either bawl my eyes out at the fact that it's a tremendous song and the band was in such a terrific direction musically, or I'll look at it as just another VH song.

This topic comes up about once a year, but to me it never gets old. It's a hidden treasure (much like the follow up to III) that the fans haven't managed to get ahold of yet, and it's always fun to speculate the potential greatness this song could hold.

If "Humans Being" is an indicator of the direction they were taking, I'll be DAMN pissed if it's a good song and we never saw a new album from that lineup in 1996/7

It always bugged me about that Stairway to Heaven thing. Why would Eddie Van Halen need to chase that? Even Zep had better songs than Stairway! With that said, I'd still love to hear anything Ed was working on from that time period because I absolutely love his work on Balance, as well as Humans Being.

Who wrote Feelings by the way? It really sounds like something Ed would write. When you think about him and everything he's been through, the lyrics to that song really hit home. I thought that song was more prolific than How Many Say I. Very honest and very different VH, but awesome.
    Could this be magic?

when you guys talk of a song that eventually ended up being used in parts on III and by sam you're talking about "The Wish" from the FUCK sessions, the lyrics and reworked music by Sam and Jesse harms can be heard on Red Voodoo on Returning of the Wish (awsome song) and parts of the original music can be heard on Once. The wish was originally a keyboard song that Thomas Dolby helped Ed out with the keys...or something like that.

BU2 has such a wied conveluted history that it's hard to keep things stragiht, both Fairburn and Ballard worked on it, Bruce tried to get writing credits on it, it was supposed to be on Twister then BOV1, now it just sits and does nothing.

I've never heard of a copy existing and I've never heard anyone associated with the song say anything bad about it...it's a shame, they should have just used that on BOBW and maybe LTS and called it a day.

Ed wrote the music, Sam wrote the lyrics and melody. Sammy was going through something of a dark time with his divorce, the tension in VH, and Ed Leffler passing, and it came through in some of those lyrics. "Feelin'" was probably one of his better pennings on Balance, because it really seemed to have some genuine qualities to it (unlike "Big Fat Money").

The lyrics to "How Many Say I" were written by Gary. They're some of those "sounds like they should be deep but really aren't" type lyrics (like "One I Want"). Ed was apparently inspired and wrote the song singing and playing on the piano.
