Very cool to read about. I knew 1984 was recorded 16-track, and I knew Donn Landee had a major hand in setting up the studio, but I never knew the history of the console or gear. The "new" board 5150 acquired in 1990 was the one they recorded FUCK and Balance on (and maybe III), and it has since been replaced with an SSL.

Wow there is a shitload of history behind that rig. That will be a great purchase for someone, it probably has a lot of mojo in it.

    Very cool!
That board would be much better suited somewhere like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum, where everyone could appreciate it's history, rather than someone's personal studio IMO.
Besides ... I'm pretty sure that board has been riden pretty hard through the years.

    Cool find!

It sounds like it's basically been dormant for the past 15 years, though.

I would seriously consider a purchase like that if I knew how to refurbish it. But, alas, that is not in the money or time budget right now.

J.A. yeah, I feel much better saying that. But, it is a very cool piece of music history. Just hope it goes to someone who can appreciate the history of this musical soundboard and not totally scab it for parts.

    Nice find!

unless things have changed, and i really doubt that they have, the RRHOF has a "we don't buy artifacts/display items" policy. the buyer would have to donate it or loan it to the HOF.

Agreed. This thing belongs in a wing of the Smithsonian (no, not simply because of the Van Halen connection), rather than residing in some rich hair-ball's rec-room.
