    Van Halen-"The People's Cover Band"...

From back in the early, unsigned days, when the band (in order to survive) played other artist's tunes at backyard parties or in dismal clubs. And yes, the sound quality is usually atrocious. What do you expect for the mid-seventies?

Van Halen-Rock N Roll Hoochie Coo (7:25) Popularized by Rick Derringer, this is Johnny Winter's version

And they could still pull it off, several years later.

I kinda get a laugh when I see people hear say that Ed sounded his best on the VH3 tour because I'm such a huge fan of the club days. The guy was a fucking animal on guitar and his tone wasn't all buzzy and shit. I can't imagine what kind of experience it must have been to catch them when they were young and hungry. They were some kind of bar band back then that's for sure.

Good stuff, Craig. That Rock 'n Roll Hoochie Koo is a personal fave of mine.

Agreed on that one. Mikey's vocals were pretty darn good.

I initially decided not to include this one, as the sound quality is truly quite dismal. Then I thought someone may actually get something out of it nonetheless.

If you ever wondered what a club era VH show must have been like, here's a solid clue. An abbreviated take on a Humble Pie classic, complete with Dave working the audience.

Van Halen-30 Days In The Hole (2:31) Humble Pie

Van Halen-"In For The Kill" (5:42) Budgie
