Default Olympic Torch Protesters Scale Golden Gate Bridge

    Monday, April 7, 2008
Olympic torch relay protesters scale Golden Gate Bridge
    ESPN.com news services

SAN FRANCISCO -- Three protesters are climbing up the suspension cables of the Golden Gate Bridge as part of a protest to the coming Olympic torch relay.
The protesters are wearing helmets and one of them is carrying a suitcase with him. All three of the protesters are tethered together.
One of them has pulled out a Tibetan flag.
In Paris, security officials canceled the final run of the Olympic relay through the French capital after chaotic protests Monday, sending a snuffed-out torch to its destination on a bus in a humiliating concession to protesters decrying China's human rights record.
With the Olympic torch relay headed to San Francisco on Wednesday and with thousands of protesters also expected, USOC chairman Peter Ueberroth is cutting short his stay at the Olympic meetings in Beijing to return to the United States, according to published report.
"They have a right to peacefully assemble and express their point of view, which we respect," Ueberroth told the newspaper. "Similarly, the rights of those who have been selected to participate in the torch relay should also be respected."
Ueberroth will be the senior USOC official in San Francisco, according to the report.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

WHat is pretty cool is that the torch will pass right in front of where I work on Wed. Even better is that I am off that day so I can just walk down to check it out. I remember in '84 the torch runner passed a block away from my parents house. My mom took pictures then and it took me a few years to realize that it was a pretty big deal to see the torch that close in person as well as that close to home.

Could care less if they jump. I'm worried that there could be something dangerous in the suitcase though.

BTW, I think the SF Chron had Free Tibet signs in the Fri. paper.

OK. I agree with freeing Tibet, but I'm not going to climb to the top of the GG Bridge to protest it!

Now just hold on a gol dern second.

These nimrods were at the anti-war rallies a few weeks back bitching about how we need to get out of Iraq. So which is it, you Granola-eating sphincter lickers? Either we quit meddling in other countries' beeswax and leave the poor and the oppressed to suck on it or we kick a little ass.

Fuckin' make up your THC-addled minds. You can't have it both ways.

Like I always have to ask: Free Tibet? Okay, how do we do that exactly?

Face it, now that Taiwan want's closer relations (i.e.$$$$$) with the mainland Tibet is just even more screwed.
