    Default Built my first Strat

So I wasn't planning on building a guitar, but when my girlfriend bought me a Strat body for my birthday, I couldn't help but finish it!

I decided to go for a pickup combo that would try to get me in the ball-park of my Wolfgangs in the bridge position, but more Strat like tones in the neck/middle for more a SRV/John Mayer vibe. In the end, it's a real nice playing and sounding guitar! Will definitely be able to keep it in the mix along with my Wolfgangs.

MIM Strat Body - Midnight Wine
    Mighty Mite Neck
    Original Floyd Rose
    Fender Tuners
Dimarzio Tone Zone S, Area '61, and Virtual Vintage Solo Pro
    Warmoth Vintage Pearloid pickguard

How do you like that Tone Zone? I have a Hot Rails in my Strat, and I was thinking about swapping out with one of those. I really like the Hot Rails, but I'm not sure if the tone difference would even be worth it..

On that note, I installed one of the Duncan Lil' 59 Humbuckers in my Strat bridge position about 10 years ago. ( the ones that fit in single coil slot like the Tonezone) Ive never been to enthralled with it. Just sounds real thin to me. Even thinner than the single coil, but without the hum. Do you think the Tone Zone has a fat enough sound to drop some coin on, or should I just stick with a S-coil? ('course I'd have to buy another! Fucked that one up trying to make a homemade Sustainer for a part I was recording.) Man did that sucker stink when it started smoking! Not exactly meant to work in reverse for very long.

Oh...sorry. I built a small re amplifier some time ago that basically turns a pickup into a driver, just a more primitive version of a pro built Sustainer. Only problem was that the wire has to be of a heavier diamiter to handle the output of the re-amplifier, otherwise it burns itself out. It works cool now! I had to rewind a bobbin by hand with the heavier guage wire and
a used a better magnet with inert polepieces (the kind from cheap singcoils)
The high E string is the only one that doesn't sustain as well as the others. Probably due to low mass being.009

    Default Sustainer

Actually if you are interested in the homemade sustainer, I'll try to pull up my old plans. It is suprisingly natural sounding, It does'nt have that horrible artificial squeel that the store bought ones do. It's no showpiece mind you, but great to enhance a recording with something that makes someone say WTF is that?

I haven't gotten too much time to fiddle with it, but so far I'm pretty satisfied with the tone zone. I'd recommend it.

Cool. You'll have to let me know how it sounds once you get it crankin'. I'm just curious how the output is on it. I like the Hot Rails, but the output is almost too much (more than a lot of humbuckers I've used)... It can get kinda annoying when it's picking up every little nuance.
