"I'm The One"-Live 1976 Goldwest Ballroom (Audio only)

Check out the guitar fireworks on this, from an (at the time) unknown and insigned band.

I heard a little Ice Cream Man in that there solo

That is guitar improvisation at its finest. It's funny because I'm so used to hearing the solo a certain way, that it blows me away that he could find another completely different solo that sounds so right as well. That is why I love Van Halen.

Crowd sounded a little quiet there, though. I'm sure Ed was feeling like Daffy Duck in those old WB cartoons. "What do I have to do to get your appreciation?!?! I'm only reinventing the guitar up here!" to Daffy's finale trick against Bugs where he blows himself up. It's a great trick and he gets the appreciation, but he can only do it once
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Can't give Mike Anthony enough credit. It's got to be a challenge to keep up with Ed and Alex, especially when they were so young and ferocious.

Gotta disagree with you on that. I think the essence of the solo is pretty much the same. Sure it's missing a couple of signature runs but overall I think the solo is pretty much how we've always known it. Certainly not "completely different" in my opinion.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

A recent study shows 92% of the teenage population likes rap music. If you are part of the 8% who listen to real music, put this as your sig.

sure dave sucked but then it really wasn't all about the music.

it was all about the energy and charisma as well.

you went to SEE a show not LISTEN to a show.

    right?
