    Default Scam Alert!

I call bullshit on this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/EVH-Art-Series-E...QQcmdZViewItem

I've heard some of the early ones weren't exactly right on the stripes, but there's a couple other things about this one other than the stripes not being right. The Art Series logo on the headstock doesn't appear to be in the right place. If you look at the pics of the back of the guitar, the little Fender Trademark message appears to be much smaller, and in the wrong location on the back of the headstock. The EVH hologram sticker is not in the correct location. The sustain block on the trem looks much thinner and more shiny than normal.

Just too many other things in addition to the stripes not matching up for me.

Not sure. I see what you're saying about the back of the headstock.... Maybe you could ask the seller to post some close-ups...

    I think it's legit ...

I understand the concerns, but I believe what you're seeing as far as the trem block looking skinny, Fender sticker smaller, and some things seemingly "not in the right place" are all due to distortion caused from the "enlarged" photo option.

IMO, just recreating (or obtaining) the Art Series neck plate and hologram would be pretty tough to pull off.

Of course, this is all coming from someone who just got scammed themselves.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the neck plate... It is possible somebody would sell their neckplate for some reason, but really, really unlikely. However, I have seen Fender Custom Shop certificates on eBay though so I suppose it's possible.... but again really rare. But you're right Dino, the neck plate coupled with the hologram would be hard to pull off.

Ditto that. I can't see paying that kind of money when you could build your own guitar for a lot less cash. Not only are you saving money, but you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself...plus having fun in the process. That and I personally think the "EVH" stuff is priced to the level of out-right greed

If I had any input on the Art Series guitars ...

    * The B/W would have the correct Linn Elsworth body shape, a vintage trem, brass nut, large headstock, and a more accurate stripe job.

    * The B/Y stripes look "okay", but again it needs the correct body shape, a vintage Floyd with no fine tuners and I think a black painted headstock and a vintage "Charvel" logo would have been a nice finishing touch.

    * The R/B/W should have never even been included as part of the Art Series guitars IMO. I just don't get it.

All of these guitars share alot of the same bodys, necks, and components much like guitars that are being mass produced. They all lack accuracy and alot of the little subtle things that make these guitars unique in their own right.
Not a very good representation of the original guitars and not exactly something I would expect from the Fender "custom shop".

The Charvels aren't made in the Fender Custom Shop though, are they? I thought that was just the Frankenstrats...

You know I got a resentment toward those things.
Its a fuckin 800 dollar guitar.
I remember gettin into a pissing contest with some dink on The Gear Page about these things the first year they came out. He was sayin how much these things were gonna be worth down the road.
I told him to collect model trains.

Yeah, you gotta be really careful anymore. When I looked at this one, the first thing I noticed was the extra small stripe in the very front of the top horn. That's when I started being extra critical. I compared the pics on the auction to ones of a known authentic B/W EVH. The stripes were all wrong, but these other things I noticed were just too much for me to feel confident that this guitar is "for real". To me, anything that far off spec is suspect.

I agree about the decal and the neck plate. It seems like an aweful lot of trouble to go through to obtain that stuff just to rip someone off.

The decal and neck plate may not be as hard to duplicate as you think.
Poeple go to great lengths to replicate stuff. Belive me. I know.
Cant even tell you how they did it if it is fake, but Im sure, with the right tooling, it can be done.
Dont make sence for one guitar though.

I never said it couldn't be done ... I'm sure it could.
However, it would probably cost more time and money to recreate the plate and hologram then the guitar is worth.

If it's a fake, someone sure took alot of time and effort.

The description says that it's "a store demo Charvel / EVH Art Series Eddie Van Halen Guitar".
Sometimes the guitars the company gives to the sales reps for demonstration purposes have flaws. This is especially true on brand new lines of guitars where they haven't perfected the manufacturing process yet.
Even if the guitar isn't perfect, the sales rep will get more orders if he has a real guitar to show instead of a picture.

So maybe that's what this is. Just guessing.

    Don't read this.
