Default Upcoming Movies You're Hyped Up About

    Well 2008 should be good.

The first one on my list is The Forbidden Kingdom, which features mega-legends Jackie Chan and Jet Li on the same screen for the first time. I love pretty much all movies either of them has starred in and them meeting in the same film is like, only something that Stallone + Schwarzenegger would match.

There's a trailer on the official website -

    http://www.forbiddenkingdommovie.com

Next one on my list, - Twilight, based on the same-titled novel by Stephanie Meyer. Loved every page of it, it's about a teenage girl moving into a small town where she falls for a vampire named Edward. Can't wait to see a movie version of it. The girl who plays Bella is beyond frigging hot!

Well obviously next Indiana Jones, we have a whole thread on it.

And of course Hobbit and Hobbit 2, but that's not in the next 3 years.

The only flicks coming out this year I have even a remote interest in are Indy 4 and the Dark Knight with Ledger's Joker.

Alright Squalen, I need you to answer this for me. Which of those two will be bigger at the box office? It's the subject of ongoing debate at the Saloon up here.

Oh, GAWD, dude, Indiana Jones 4 will take all others to the bank this year. Bet on it. In some ways, Indiana Jones is a more revered mythology than the Star Wars saga. It will appeal to both older and younger crowds, whereas the new Christian Bale Batman will not pull in certain matured audiences. Though Ledger's death and his last role as the Joker will absolutely stoke the fire on ticket sales.

But Ford's Indiana Jones will bring in even Grandma Betty to the theater.

Even with. Though Dark Knight will absolutely take its role among the top money makers of the year, don't get me wrong, and from all reports thus far, looks like Ledger gives a chilling last performance. Looking forward to Dark Knight for sure.

I don't think it'll beat the tradition of Indy though. Bringing back Marion for us oldsters and adding LeBeouf for the young'uns were strokes of genius. One can only hope Lucas' script isn't like the Star Wars prequels.

Understanding that (1) I've never really been a "comic book" movie fan, and (2) I really don't see how Robert Downey Jr. has "it" to be in the lead role...

    ...BUT...

I'm REALLY intrigued by IRONMAN coming up the first week of May.

I'm looking more forward to The Dark Knight than Indiana Jones. And I loved Indy as a kid. Plus, I've never been much of a superhero movie fan. But I must say, I like the new Batman a lot.
The trailer for The Dark Knight kicks Indy's trailer's ass.
And, I agree with Squalen, Indy will make more money. The nostalgia factor alone will sell tons of seats. But, I must say, there will be more kids at the Dark Knight, and kids bring in lots of dough.

Are you guys talking domestic (US) or worldwide? Ah, I guess it doesn't matter.

Well, it's still officially summer, but it's not really a summer movie; on Sept. 12th, Righteous Kill comes out. Pacino and DeNiro. I'll be there for that.

I think "Indiana Jones IV" will have a great opening weekend, possibly even record breaking, but where it goes from there will depend on the movie itself. All it would take would be one or two reviewers to compare it to "Star Wars Episode I" and it'll be all downhill from there. From the trailer, "The Dark Knight" seems to have what it needs for staying power. If "Indy" is a hit, it will easily beat "The Dark Knight", if it is shit, well, it won't go far past the opening.

That about sums it up for me as well. Haven't been to a theatre since Star Wars 3 came out, and that was because my two older boys wanted to see it. I would have waited for the DVD, and saved a lot of money. Theatres are just getting stupid money these days.

Me too. Dark Knight looks awesome, and Indy is well, Indy.

    Well, a precedent exists.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was released in May 1989 and earned 191 million.

The original Batman was released June 1989 and earned 251 million.

Both movies will have big opening weekends but it may depend upon word of mouth to see which one has legs.
