Default Egg McMuffin inventor dies at 89

Egg McMuffins are good. Time to make some angels in heaven fat.

Egg McMuffin inventor dies at 89

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A Southern California McDonald's restaurants official says Egg McMuffin inventor Herb Peterson has died in Santa Barbara at age 89.

Monte Fraker, vice president of operations for McDonald's restaurants in Santa Barbara, said Peterson died peacefully at his home Tuesday.

Peterson came up with idea for the signature McDonald's breakfast item in 1972.

He began his career with McDonald's as vice president of the company's advertising firm, D'Arcy Advertising, in Chicago. He wrote McDonald's first national advertising slogan, "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day," and eventually became a franchisee.

Believe it or not, this fellow single handedly changed not only the way a country eats, yet breakfast "delivery" systems throughout the entire planet.

And a "Sausage McMuffin" or two, heartily dosed with a pack of Taco Bell hot sauce and black pepper, is more than likely my favorite hang-over cure. It resolves absolutely nothing, yet tastes superb.

I just came in here to post that! I was afraid I'd be the only one.

Back when I was a drinker, an Egg McMuffin and a great big, ice-cold Coke would smooth out the hangover lumps just great. I think it was all of the salt and protien.

    Rest In Peace.

Without being disrespectful, let me say that the homemade version of the egg mcmuffin is just far too delicious compared the McDonald's version which tends to cause blitzkrieg warfare within my bowels. The homemade EMM is especially nice with a slice of ham. English muffin, nice fried egg, slice of cheese, slice of ham (optional, depending on your mood, I usually go without it)... and perhaps a bit of ketchup to dip in along with the yolk after it breaks. mmmmmmm.

I also enjoy the egg mcmuffin. I am not thrilled at how they have shrunk over the years.

Had one with hashbrowns and coffee this morning. And to Chefs point, some hotsauce (though I'm not crazy about Taco Bell) is just the added punch to make me say "oh yeah". Thanks for the grub Mr. Peterson.

    R.I.P. and Thanks Mr. Peterson

The Sausage McMuffin w/Egg still saves my life on certain mornings.

And whenever they get the order wrong, I get to enjoy the Original Egg McMuffin every now and then.

They come wrapped in paper now, but you just can't beat one of those old fashioned bad boys served in the flip top Styrofoam box.

oh, gawd, people- Egg McMuffins are horrid! That fake-tasting rubbery egg frisbee in the middle....yikes.

I order the Sausage McMuffin sometimes because I like the English muffin part (better than the bisquit sandwiches, imo.) I just fling that rubbery frisbee egg thing out the car window!

No doubt. If slices of pizza are the ultimate late-night-shitfaced-munchie food then the egg mcmuffin was definitely the perfect next-morning food.

In college I couldn't wait to hit the caf in the morning for exactly what you said, the cup of coke loaded with ice and their version of the McMuffin. Killer.
