    Default dvd burning question

    hey all,

hopefully one of you can help me with this. I recorded some home videos on my camcoder and transferred the files to my computer. I then burned them onto a dvd-r dvd. I then tried to play the dvd on a new dvd player i bought that should play dvd-r (it does play my wedding video which is also a dvd-r but was done by someone else).

Any idea why it won't play the dvds i burned? It's my first time doing this so I imagine I'm messing someone up.

    thanks all

    mike

If you pop that thing into your PC, have a look at the folder contents on the dvd. If you don't see a folder named 'VIDEO_TS' then you have probably just burned movie files straight to disc - to be a standard DVD the files have to be burned in a certain format - theres software that can do this for you.

Not to change subjects here or anything but does anyone know of a good, reliable CD/DVD Burner for PC's? The REPLACEMENT that HP sent me a couple months ago has taken a shit. It wont read CD's and when i try to burn DVD's and play them back, it just skips through the chapters. I chatted with HP tech support and they told me to do a full system recovery so that the software will "reboot" it self or however they put it. But in the process of doing a system recovery, all my files on all my hard-drives will be lost...FUCK THAT! So im thinkin about tellin HP to piss off cuz this is the second time this has happened and they wont ship me a new one until I do the system restore and find out of it is the software or hardware

Again, sorry to switch subjects but i figured it was kinda in the same area as what "its me" was talkin about.

I've also had that problem when trying to burn DVD's. One solution that I found was to finalize the DVD....then it worked.
    Hope this helps.

I've been using a Pacific Digital external DVD burner for about 3 years now. I burn on average 6 DVD's a week and it is still going strong. I bought it at Staples for about $100.00.

What software are you using to burn the DVDs with?

What is the brand of DVD you are burning on?

What is the brand and model of your set-top DVD player?

Finalizing may be the answer, but we need to know a little more about the circumstances to help.

Clove DVD 4 sounds like a copy program, not an authoring program.

as for burners, i have found Pioneer DVD burners to be superior. not the standalone shit, the internals.

Sorry for the double post but heres my reason for it

So I just got done doin some quick research on some External DVD burners and im tryin to decide what would work best for me. I dont have a whole lot of $$$ so im tryin to stay low price wise but I dont want somethin that is gunna take a shit the first day I have it. I looked up pacific digital and pioneer and they both seem like great burners but im just tryin to get an idea of what works and what doesnt.

Yeh thats your problem then. It's kinda complex to explain. Theres probably free software around that can do what needs to be done but probably the easist thing I can think of is to go to

    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/secti...dvd-converters

and just download a few of the freebies there and see how you go. You need something thats gonna convert your video into a dvd compliant mpeg2 file, and something that can take that file and author a valid dvd, which you can then burn.
