    Default Bass amplification

Ok, while I repair, build, and so forth with guitars and basses, I'm limited on my knowledge of bass amps. I've always primarily dealt with guitar amplification so I'm in need of some suggestions for my son's bass.

I just picked up a new Peavey Zodiac bass guitar and want to get him something to use other than my stuff! Peavey gear is readily available to me, however, I'm not opposed to using other equipment.

Give me some suggestions, or ask your bass players what they're using. The bass player is the guy on the other side of the stage. His guitar has 4-5 strings on it. Use Michael Anthony as a reference if needed.

On a side note, the Zodiac bass is a fantastic bass for the money. Great action, punchy sound, good looks... http://www.peavey.com/products/brows...%20Scorpio.cfm

Thanks and have a good weekend...

My knowledge of bass amps is probably even more limited, and about all I can say is to avoid the Eden Nemesis series. I know the guy who designed them, and while he did excellent work the build quality is terrible and they're very prone to breaking.

trace elliot is always a great product when it comes to bass amplification, thats what our old bass player used all the time and it sounded great.
one session i sat in on the bass player used an orange thunderverb guitar head and a marshall 4x12 from a jcm 900....it sounded brilliant aswell!!, which i wasn't expecting at all

The real question here is how big/small an amp does he need? A practice amp, or a proper bass amp he can gig with?

He's going to be using the amp for band and show choir at his middle school. I've always been of the opinion of "do it right, vs. doing it twice" when it applies to musical equipment.

No he's not gigging professionally with the gear, but I don't want to buy amplifiers in increments either...

I'm not a gigging musician but I have had a fender bassman for 3-4 years now...not a problem with it. It's a 60 watt amp 10' speaker. It does what it needs to do.

Personally I would recommend this to go along with it....

Gives a ton of options for different sounds, effects for bass. Yes, I own it.

    Good luck man.

You beat me to it. That's the same amp I was thinking of. Mikey used Ampegs for a few years, so I'm sure they're top quality.
