    Default Peavey Floyd

So I'm changing strings on my Wolfgang the other night, tightening up the high E string and the saddle starts stripping out. The bolt is fine, but the saddle itself is coming apart. My question is simply whether or not the saddles on the Wolfgang Floyd are Peavey specific or if a regular Floyd saddle would work? I only ask because I've read a couple of things on here where it is suggested they might be, but my local Peavey repair place says that they are not Peavey specific. The only problem is these guys are morons and really do have a difficult time with simple tasks, so I would rather know for sure rather than take their word for it.

    Thanks for the help.

The Floyds used by Peavey are made by a major manufacturer of hardware, the problem is no one will tell me who. It is similar but obviously different from the Gotoh FR, so I suspect Wilkinson (I've confirmed it's not Ping). I've bought several exact versions of that Floyd--without the Peavey etching--for $30 or $40 on eBay. They are super high quality--all hardened steel and not cast like the mega cheapies. The catch is I have no idea where to buy parts for it outside of the Peavey Parts Department. They'll sell you a new saddle for about $18 (I've replaced a couple). You could also just buy one of these for parts: http://cgi.ebay.com/Chrome-Floyd-Ros...QQcmdZViewItem. It's the same thing, but doesn't have the brass sustain block.

Do those have the 15" radius like the Peavey's?

The threads are stripping out of the back of the saddle. I've never had that problem on a guitar before, I have always been careful not to overtighten, or so I thought.

Just bite the bullet and order it from Peavey, it's the safest bet. Make sure you tell them which string it's for, as the saddles are of varying heights.

Can anyone tell me once and for all if the "Ping" that makes the Floyd Rose is same as the Ping that makes Golf Clubs?

The only reason why I ask, is that I used to work for Ping Golf (not at their plant, for a subsidiary) and I know that one of the owners sons was a very avid guitar player. And since they have access to all of the materials and manufacturing equipment, I have to wonder.

plus I have to wonder about the name Ping. gotta be copyrighted, right?

    Anyone?

    i've had this happen.

i had the local tech order me a real floyd from germany and install that instead.

i have no idea if it was a fluke or just crap parts.

now i have an original wolf floyd i don't need with all parts in a box. anyone wanna buy it?

They are not the greatest Floyds out there ( The Peaveys) I know for a fact that Ed had a few issues with them, and was a major headache for Peavey when Ed was roadtesting the wolfies before they went into production. They are not as sturdy as an OFRB .

I am pretty sure its the same trem as the HP model, and you can buy them through Peavey .

You could try fitting a floyd saddle , or a Gotoh one !

There could have been a problem with the screw itself that contributed to the stripping out. The saddle block can also shift up or back too far on occasion which will mean you'll push the screw in too far and strip it out.

Keep them lubricated in addition to not over-tightening, and that's about all you can do. This kind of thing really doesn't happen very often (hopefully).
