Default Ventures playing EVH amps at R&R Induction

To bad Van Halen wasn't there playing. I did notice on the commercials the R&R Hall of Fame aired about a month ago had Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love in the background!!!

Why aren't they allowed to play 5150 III's? You have to be a dumbass metalhead to own one?

This is probably best suited for the Guitar Room btw.

The Ventures are cool - a great guitar instrumental rock band long overdue for the Hall of Fame (Shame). I saw Van Halen on the 5150 tour play "Pipeline", a Venture's song, for an encore. Maybe they're playing the 5150 IIIs as a tip of their hat to Eddie, since he's hurting now and was in rehab at this time last year? Maybe they just like the clean channel on the amp? Who knows, but they're cool and can play anything they want, without answering to anybody in the peanut gallery.

Oh man, the metalheads who own any of the 5150 series amp fucking kill me. I play hard rock with my band and whenever we play shows with any of those shitty hardcore metal bands they say "Why do you need that amp? And why is your pre gain so low?" My pre gain is usually around 5... these morons have no concept of tone and they think that they're the only ones who should be using these amplifiers.

It sincerely pisses me off when I get a moronic metal freak trying to tell me I don't need a 5150 and that it's only for death metal etc. I guess it doesn't matter really, all those bands are pretty shitty and the rest of the world with any bit of common sense is laughing at them and the garbage music they put out.

Yeah I know how that is. Because the guy who designed them plays death metal

I hear it too, I have my gain at 5.5 on my old 5150, we're hard rock, we're not freaking death metal. I like tone in my sound you dumb wanna-be Korn reject. Trust me man, I've been there with you.

Yeah man, exactly! 5.5 is perfect for the Lead Channel pregain. I've seen some of these metal bands with the pregain literally on 9-10. It has to be one of the worst sounding things I have ever heard. Just hiss, hum, feedback and crackling. Yet, these guys love it and act like they run the fuckin show and no one else even matches their guitar prowess. When I first got my 5150 many years ago I let a friend of mine try it out who just so happened to be in one of those terrible metal/screamo bands and I will not lie to you... the first thing he did was crank that pregain put the mids on 0 and away he went. Terrible.

Oh, I know. And the best part is when I explain to them who designed it, half of them have no clue who he is and just assume he's some random metal guitarist turned amp designer.

I met a guy at the local Long & McQuade music store who was playing some bullshit hardcore metal on a Mesa, thinking he was the king of the store because people were watching him, who then proceeded to tell me that the new 5150III is shit solely for the reason that it was "supposed to" have a great metal tone and it lacked the super intense harsh gain. Just pure ignorance, thinking the guitar world revolves around them. This amp was NOT designed for metal, sorry to all the metalheads out there.

Yes the typical metal dipshit puts the mids at 0, cranks the gain and the presence to 10. Why don't they just put everything at 10, it's fucking noise and mush what they want anyway.

im in a metalcore band and i only set my pre gain at 5 always have.

hate to break it to you but the 5150 is a high gain amp and getting a heavymetal tone is one of the things its good at.

and dont ruin the guitar room please.

I don't think he meant it that way Rick.

It's just that it's funny to hear people talk shit about WHO should be playing an amp and who shouldn't. And you know that a lot of these thrash players just crank everything and have shit for tone, it's just mush.

You obviously aren't in that group.
