    Righteous tunes indeed...

....still, with everything that has gone on with this band, seeing these old clips brings me great joy AND great sadness.

VH1 and 1984 are often mentioned as the best. WACF and FW are often called the most underated, but song for song, I don't know how you can do much better than the duece. I waffle between Outta Love Again and Light up the Sky as my favorites on that album.

Sucka you always seem to help us remember why were on the links in the first place.

    Thanks!

Sometimes I need the reminder as well.

I think this album had Ed's best guitar tone. SOOOO SOOOOO SOOOO BROWN AND RICH!

Man, I definitely have to agree with you on the tone. It sounds as though he's using a little more gain on II, but the sound of those frequently changed strings during hammer ons and so on still comes through. Listen to how smooth and brown the sound is in Women in Love, right when he comes in after the tapped harmonic intro. I'm playing the heck out of this cd in my car now.

Looking back to VH1, it's incredible how *little* gain he is using to get those sounds. I bought the 1 and II albums right after each was released. I had been playing guitar around two years when 1 came out and it absolutely knocked me over. I even recall striping up my white Strat copy in '79 (back in the no money days). I think people who were musicians back then can recall how songs like Eruption and I'm the One almost caused several of us to put the guitar away for good. VHII still has well thought out leads, but it gave guitarists a little bit of a breather as we found many of those leads to be more approachable. As for the tone, well you never can quite nail that one...

God, that Outta Love Again is smokin'! Damnit!

Mikey and Al really tore that one up, behind some of Ed's finest shreddage to date. One of their best songs, IMO.

Of course we'll never see a release of a CVH DVD. Because Mike's on them

Isn't it sad that because Ed dislikes Mike, for whatever the reason may be, the fans are punished and probably now won't get any official live releases from that era of the band. Or Ed would use some kind of technology to morph Wolf into Mike's place

It sucks, guys. But shit, Largo and Sao Paulo are better than anything an official release could give us, I'd say
