Default Val on Cincinnati radio this morning

For what it's worth, Valerie was interviewed on 700 WLW this morning. Apparently she's keeping her book tour going while they are off. The DJ asked her how Ed was and she said she talked to him two days ago and he sounded good and she was really proud that he was being proactive about his health.

He is the worst kind of alcoholic....& he slips constantly. But yeah, going back to rehab over and over is proactive in a sense. With any dz, when it comes back, you keep fighting it - don't think of alcoholism as being a weakness and a fault. It is a horrible circumstance to try and control and try to live with.

This looks like a good place to post this. Probably taken from that radio interview.

    Valerie says Eddie is OK
'It's not as awful as people think'

Everybody's been worried about Eddie Van Halen since the reunited Van Halen cancelled some tour dates, but the guitarist's ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli, says he's okay.

A publicist's statement about Van Halen, "undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures," left fans wondering if the problem was booze or a recurrence of cancer; over the phone from Ohio where she is touring in support of her new book, Losing It, Bertinelli says she completely understands the public interest in Van Halen's health.

"I just talked to him a couple of days ago. I understand the curiosity -- I was curious until I talked to him. He sounds terrific," said the actress.

"He's just being very pro-active. It's not as awful as people think it is. I'm so proud of him right now. He sounded terrific, and hopefully they'll start back up again on the 11th."

It sounds like good news....until you get to the end....here's the kicker....

"...and hopefully they'll start back up again on the 11th." says Valerie.

Uhh, how confident is she that he's making progress? Well, you can tell she knows Eddie very well.

I hope that Val's message was true and Ed's condition isn't as dire as the press release and subsequent rumours indicated. I think we can all take a cue from her and let Edward know that we are proud of him and wishing him the best too. I know it's frustrating, but at least he's taking action now instead of allowing himself to spiral out of control again. He's a good guy and great guitarist. Let's let him do what he has to do to stay healthy without judgment.
    Could this be magic?

If they do push back more dates, it may not be just because of Eddie. They will likely need a little time to get get back into the 'groove' before playing to a live audience again.

The statement sounded pretty bad but with a giant question mark. Glad that Val was able to calm some of this down a bit.

Whatever Edward's dealing with, hope he gets through it.

Can we rename this thread something like "Valerie's updated comments regarding Eddie" or something?

    This is from PEOPLE:

    Valerie Bertinelli

Photo by: Jesse Grant / WireImage
She may have written a tell-all book, but Valeire Bertinelli was suddenly very tight-lipped Wednesday night when asked about ex-husband Eddie Van Halen's mystery illness.

"I really don't think it's anybody's business," the Jenny Craig spokeswoman, 47, told PEOPLE at a Cincinnati book-signing for her new memoir, Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time. "He's being proactive and that's good."

The 53-year-old Van Halen guitarist "is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests," the band announced on its Web site Monday. (The rocker, who has a long history of drug and alcohol abuse, previously battled cancer. In 2002, he announced he'd beaten the disease.) As a result of the star's undisclosed illness, they cancelled four concerts, including one slated for Wednesday in Cincinnati.

In fact, Bertinelli said she's just as disappointed as other Van Halen fans. "We scheduled the signing early so we could make the concert in time," she said. (Her teenage son, Wolfie, is touring with dad as the band's bassist.)

Instead, as the signing at Joseph-Beth Booksellers wound down, the former child-star and her longtime boyfriend Tom Vitale headed out in search of seafood and champagne.

They certainly had plenty to celebrate. Bertinelli had just gotten a call announcing that Losing It had made it onto the New York Times Bestseller List. (The actual list is not published until Sunday.) Upon hearing the news, the ecstatic actress screamed, "Holy crap!"

Sure Val... Regular people who bought tickets, 5 stars, etc. have planned to attend these shows for months have no business knowing why they have been cancelled/re-scheduled, whatever...

It was our business the last time when they announced he was going into rehab. What changed?
