    Default Marshall tubes

Question: Last evening i was playing through my Marshall JCM 2000 DLS for about 30 minutes, when all of the sudden to sound became very faint and i started to smell something burning. I walked over to the head and looked inside and the tubes looked like they were on fire. The heat coming out of the vent was extreme and the smell was coming from the head. I shut it off and turned it back on about 15 minutes later and played for about ten minutes and it seemed fine. Do i need new tubes? I have owned several Marshall's over the years and never had to re-tube.

Well never retubing cant be good. Power tubes are supposed to be changed like every 6 months if you gig a lot. It could be fine but you might as well stick some JJ's in there.

    Bad tubes don't typically "smell".
At least I've never experienced that.

It could be a potential fire hazard.
I'd keep it unplugged when not in use and have it checked out before investing in new tubes that you may not even need.

Agreed my friend's Mesa caught on fire once and we didn't have a fire extinguisher(electrical fire you know). Get it checked. before you have to pay for someone to air out your house.

That sounds like there's too much voltage going into the tubes somehow. Take it to a shop. Transformer problem, maybe.
