Default Don't ever leave the Guitar Room!

Okay, so I'm trying to keep up to date on the current going's on with the tour, since my date is still ahead of me. I was reading some of the posts in the 2007 tour section and made the mistake of posting a reply.

Is it just me, or is the Guitar Room a little more adult place than the rest of the Forums?

Sorry if this post is a little O.T., but I just had to express my sincere appreciation for you guys being at least a little sane.

Short of the occasional tiff (I'll make this the only vague reference to my participation in one a couple of days ago), it's often very sincere and civil here, which is why it's still my favorite place at VHLinks. The never-ending regurgitation of some topics in Main is enough to turn one into just a lurker outside of this room. I've only been here a year-and-a-half, and already I've seen the same old shit tossed around there dozens of times.

Funny this is posted tonight, because just a few hours ago chefcraig mentioned in another thread in another room how harsh a lot of the Guitar Room posters are. I'd remembered him saying something to the same affect before, mainly about new people stopping in. I don't recall that kind of harsh treatment when I was a newbie here not all that long ago, so I wonder if chef just had a few bad experiences a while ago. I'd be interested to hear what he has to say.

But, yeah, anyway... this is a great place. The advice and help I've received has been priceless--and often offered with genuine kindness. I hope I've been able to help other people out in the same way.

I think because, as guitarists, we know what it's like to be in a band, at least we have a bit of an informed opinion about this erratic band, and also, pure love of the music (not the personality issues, conflict or bickering). Does this make sense to you guys?

Well, most people in this area of the forum have actual valid questions or valid points of discussion and most regulars are halfway intelligent(present company not included). It's pretty much an unspoken rule to be courteous here and I've only seen a few who have tried to troll. Yeah, I've been known to be an ass in the VH-related forums here, but I do respect the guitar forums and the various sports-related forums and don't play around too much in either area. And...It's pretty valuable to have around, IMO if you're a performing guitarist. Sure, there are other guitar-based forums around, but it's good to have one with familiararity and almost everyone based from the same playing style. You don't have to lead off every post with "Well I'm a player who is heavily influenced by EVH..." etc, etc..

Ok, lovefest mode off. Back to being a smartass.

As a newbie who has only posted a few times I have to say that this place is great. I only wish I found it sooner. The information I have received is definately priceless, and as far as the other members I consider this a first class group and I glad to be a part of it.

I've got to say it's the best place on the links, hands down. And I didn't even start coming here until about a year ago or so (this particular thread).

My experience in talking and asking questions to other guitar players over the years has not been good. So many people tend to be tied up in "I'm better than this guy." or "This guy sucks". I remember when I first came here, those experiences almost lead me to not ask questions here. But man, is it TOTALLY DIFFERENT in this thread. You guys on here are great. It's too bad we are spread all throughout the country.

Except for the occasional case of Wolfgang envy (on MY part, at least! ), this is definitely the only troll-free zone here.

one thing you will notice is the three eras of van halen (dave , sammy , gary) are judged on their musicianship writing styles not on who looked gay or sung better or wrote better lyrics or represented the "real" van halen.

i think in here you find most peeps more concerned with the guitar playing on all the albums.

just as a point i listened to vh3 and MWM ,CGTSNM , and humans beings the other day and the guitar work is really really good imo. 96-98 to me ed had really hit an apex ( regardless of the singer).

The Guitar Room is like the tornado shelter in Twister sometimes the door gets ripped open and we have a casualty here and there....but most times....the room shields most who come in here.

The guitar room is the only thing I read on VHLinks.

I also have always thought that the music was always consistent, even on III. I believe that a different singer writing the lyrics could have made some great songs, I don't think Cherone was the guy for the job. I have wondered what a Vince Neil or the lead singer for Buckcherry could have done. They didn't write classics, but wrote stuff that was catchy. Roth wrote about partying and chicks, Hagar about love, but not sure what Cherone was writing about.

The Guitar Room is also inspirational in terms of building and painting EVH guitars. Some of you guys are absolutely amazing! (to the point that when Fender unveiled its $25k Frankie, I was like - "this is no big deal...")

Speaking of the Frankie's.....does anybody have a list of paint I should use in order to paint a Frankie?

    Is a primer necessary?

What all you guys said is true.

I know personally, when someone new asks a question here regarding maintenance or set-up of a EVH style guitar, I post a reply, even if the information is covered in a thousand previous threads.

I know it's S.O.P. to tell them to do a forum search, but I always try to respond as an introduction, and to let them know they can feel welcome.

Sure, there are occaisional disagreements here about which guitar is better, or why anybody would pay that much for a strat with a fancy paintjob (:

,but for the most part, it's pretty civil here.
