    Default Guitar Body Blanks

What are the dimensions for a blank piece of wood for a guitar body?
I work at a lumber mill, & whenever we cut some maple or ash, all I see
are guitar bodies. I know some of you make bodies, so I was just wondering.
We kiln dry our wood, so maybe I could cut some out.

I know almost nothing about this, ace. But it seems to me the dimensions--especially width and length--will almost directly relate to the type of body you're carving. I've seen two-piece blanks with the one side coming out just a little longer than the other--probably to accommodate a longer top horn like on a Strat.

It'll be interesting to see what some of our experienced luthiers have to say about it this week.

Depends on the guitar you wanna build ...
Obviously an Explorer style body's gonna require a larger piece than say a Les Paul or Strat style body.

Make yourself a template of the body you want and go from there.

    StewMac sells blanks 13-3/4 x 20".

At those prices though ... I'd just assume buy a body that's already shaped, routed and drilled.
