    Default HD Movies

Silly me, I picked up the HD-DVD add-on for my Xbox yesterday. I figured for $50 with 6 movies included, I couldn't go wrong.

I watched most of King Kong last night. Wow! Just beautiful. I've had HDTV for a while, but I never really watch anything but network shows and football. The movies just pop off of the screen. It's been great having a big screen (92") for the last few years, but I'm just super impressed with the HD movies.

Lots of the stores have been having fire sales now that HD-DVD is dead. Today I blew about $70 on Planet Earth (550 minutes?!), Top Gun, Apollo 13, and one other that I can't remember.

I'm such a sucker for bargains.

HD-DVD is dead. Sure, there's a few hundred movies out for it now, but beyond this spring there aren't likely to be any more.

Beta never really faded away. I started working in television in 1995 and got out of it in 2004. We used Betacam's and Beta SP tapes at every station I worked at. It had a superior picture and sound. We used a lot of digital Beta as well. Beta evolved but not for consumers. I'm wondering if HD-DVD will do the same...but I'm doubting it. I ran into a crew from CBS' 48 Hours here in Reno recently and they were shooting everything in HD on Bluray discs. The local station I worked at here that is broadcasting the local news in HD is shooting everything in HD on hard drives but they were having problems with them last time I spoke with someone.

50 bones and 6 movies? I may take them up on that deal, even if HD-DVD is already dead in the water. That's not a bad deal.

I thought about it, but the rebate that gets you the free movies expires at the end of the month. I doubt there will be another.

I might manage to scoop up a bunch of movies this summer for very little.

Yeh they'll be shovelling HD DVDs out of every store for next to nothing over the next few weeks & months. No reason not to jump on and enjoy on a budget!

yeah I hate to say it but HD is going out the door, I saw walmart is no longer going to be stocking anything HD and when I go to my local video store I got one little shelf of HD and an isle of Bluray. I bought and HD player 3 months ago when walmart sold them for 90 bucks.. I figured it was a good way to get into the Hi Def DVD market for cheap and yeah I love the picture quality and sound quality cause i have a THX surround system that plays dolby truHD. Just the damn cost STILL of Bluray... shit I am just not going that route yet. $400 bucks for a dvd player is still just something I can't bring myself to do yet when in 2 years they'll all be under $100 like when regular dvd players came out remember those costs then? So for now HD is the way to go and I enjoy it for another year if that need be.
