Generation Swine is beyond anything he has done personally. This Sixx A.M. record is very good, but James Michael likely wrote a shitload of it. I can't remember the last time he wrote a song on his own.

The majority of the lyrics were Nikki's. JM wrote most of the actual music and DJ Ashba was heavily involved in the orchestration. Nikki and James also wrote a hit for Saliva 1 or 2 years ago as well as "The Monster is Loose" off of Meatloaf "Bat Out of Hell" III. They also have a country song that is floating around right now that's not been recorded as of yet, but supposedly is very good and should be a hit. You would be surprised at how much Nikki listens to Country.

Actually I'm quite aware of his country interests, although it isn't well known. The point I was making is that with Crue Nikki writes everything, but since 2000 he has written a lot more with outside writers as he does different projects. It'd be nice if we'd get that Crue album he first mentioned 3 years ago.
I do like the Sixx A.M. album though, very unique and well deserving of the praise it receives.

Sixx A.M. is very good as was Nikki's effort with Brides of Destruction.

SIXX: A.M. is an amazing album, and the book is also great.
Now that Tommy Lee quited Motley Crue, this is a great future for Nikki.

Hope he continues making music for Sixx: A.M.

Tommy didn't quit Motley. That was a rumor.

yeah im listening to the record non-stop (for now )...really like it...the guitar arrangements are very interesting to me ....lots of orchastrated bits that weave in and out of the main melody .....very cool but dark words........i think it would be really killer if nikki followed up this with a "light at the end of the tunnel "approach to it......now being sober and all......as for outside writers im sure that the guys all had input ...but i dont really see Motley with this much depth to the music......im thinkin that marrs kinda held them back a little.......

    Pick up Sixx: A.M.

The local rock station has been giving "Life Is Beautiful" some play lately due to the Cruefest announcement. Cool song. So I decided to pick up the CD yesterday. Solid. As concept albums go, I wouldn't put it up there with "The Wall" or "Operation: Mindcrime" but it's really good. Really dark lyrics. Recommended.

I'm going to hunt down "Heroin Diaries" to read.

I really dig the book and the CD, and I've never been a big Crue fan. I got to meet Nikki at a book signing a few months back and was really impressed at how he tried to spend as much time as possible with everyone who waited in line. I said thanks and started to walk away as soon as he signed my book, because I didn't want to hold up the line, and he called me back at talked to me for a few more minutes before moving on to the next person. It's cool that he got his shit together and is doing something positive with his influence.

You know, I really didn't like "The Heroin Diaries." I like Nikki alot. I interviewed him several times, after he stopped using, and he always struck me as an earnest and intelligent person. But I think that the book glorifies prickdom. Despite the fact that it is a cautionary tale, the highs were described in full detail. The lows were, (and I'm paraphrasing here), "Ooh I"m vomiting and shitting blood, guess I'll have to do something about that someday." Or there's pages and pages about his antics and, (another paraphrase) "Ooh I feel so bad today, not gonna get out of bed." I thought less of him after finishing the book, despite the happy ending.
