Was'nt the re-issues back in 2000 intended to spark interest in the new DLR fronted album that they were doing back then.

This might be a good sign.....kids. Could 2009 bring us a new album.?

I'd love some bonus tracks on these upcoming albums too.

If not, I probably wont waste my money.

Unless there are several unreleased bonus tracks on each of these CD's I am not interested. (and having said that- if there ARE unreleased bonus tracks- that is still a terribly lame way to milk fans into re-purchasing their albums again)

I keep wishing for a box set of unreleased material (or even a 2 CD set-- I'm not 'greedy'!) ha ha

Pathetic, although who knows, maybe they got Wolfie to play on everything. Wouldn't put it past them. Seriously though, this is just stupid.

"Cardboard sleeves"? This has the word budget written all over it. I hate those damned things...the Rush "covers" album came in one, and I can never find the damned thing in my CD rack.

The idea of putting bonus tracks on these things is that they should come as a reward to fans who may be purchasing yet another copy of the album. For a band like VH, whose career encompasses vinyl, 8-track, cassette as well as CD, to not do so is simple laziness, selfishness or muddled thinking.

More than likely, the band has little (if anything) to do with this re-release series. Also note that a record company can stuff 3 times as many of these things into a sales bin than a normal jewel case.

    Take it easy there kids...

This is only a Japanese WB release... But those Japs get all the cool stuff with inclusion of an exclusive Obi strip. Damn... we aren't worthy here in the US!! Probably Wolfie's idea...

VAN HALEN: Japanese Cardboard Sleeve Reissue Series Announced - Feb. 15, 2008

Warner Bros. has set an April 23 release date for a six-album VAN HALEN cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring the following albums:

    "Van Halen" (1978)
    "Van Halen 2" (1979)
    "Women and Children First" (1980)
    "Fair Warning" (1981)
    "Diver Down" (1982)
    "1984" (1984)

Each cardboard sleeve reissue from VAN HALEN comes with a replica original jacket, original labels, and original Japanese Obi strip. Features remastering from 2001.

An Obi strip is a loop of folded paper usually found around the left side or bottom of a Japanese or Taiwanese LP record, music CD, video game, or book. It features the title and other information, such as price and catalog numbers. The name comes from the sashes worn with kimonos and martial arts uniforms.

Ha sorry I don't think a limited rerelease of these old albums with nothing new but a card board sleeve will come close to the amount of attention and interest the tour possibly has gotten them. I doubt this is a sign of anything.

This is the new record industry idea to prop up sagging CD sales. It does not mean there will be a new record (it doesn't mean there won't either). Blondie, Bowie, Kate Bush, Duran Duran, Red Hot Chili Peppers and a bunch of others have done it recently or have ones coming out soon. USUALLY there is no bonus material. It will be a U.S. release -they are billed as "Japanese style mini sleeves". Also just because you CAN stuff extra copies in the bins doesn't mean the store buyers are going to go and buy tons of (usually) NON-returnable catalog. It's not like VH catalog sells like the Beatles or Pink Floyd.

I'll probably buy them because all my VH CD's are scratched to shit. I'm sure it will be the first time we see Michael Anthony's name removed from some of the credits. There is no reason to release these again. I think it has to do with Ed wanting to visually see Mike's name off of the credits.
