Default How to get a 3 cab set up?

I know EVH had a w/d/w cab set up, but how did he get 3 cabs connected to one amp? I am noob when it comes to this stuff but it has been confusing me for a long time now and I would like to know how he does it.

    Thanks a bunch!

He runs his amp head into a Speaker Simulator that he runs into a Solid State Power Amp. The SS Power Amp has the speaker outs on it to the w/d/w cabs. Oh, and he also runs his effects after the head out of a line level signal output from the Speaker Simulator.

thats pretty much it in a t. if you wanna know how to run the stomps out front and still keep them in a swithcer ala 90's then thats a long discussion. the palemr was used basically for this very reason to get the w/d/w. when ed started doing it, it was the only unit that really allowed for it. the line level out then feeds your switcher that has all your effects. like gproud5150 said this then feeds the power amp which feeds the 2 outside wet cabs. the volumes are then adjusted to taste. its abit different at first cause the wet cabs have no dry sound what so ever. its 0% dry and 100% wet. effects levels at 100%. they then get mixed with the center cab and then your in one hell of a tone heaven. even the d/w is pretty awesome.

Hook the cabinets up in series because that gets the "best tone", then fire the guitar tech when the ohmage mismatch makes the amp blow up.

    Don't read this.

Thanks for the help, I kind of understand now. I am still excited to be playing through a real tube amp and a 4x12. Hopefully it will be 2 4x12's soon. Ed's set up definantly doesn't look like something I could afford or think about doing ever.

oh you can just save and build a little at a time. mine is not completely done but almost there. it just takes time. you can start with a w/d and then when you have more money get another cab etc. you wont be disappointed.

You don't have to use a speaker simulator or load box though. You can come out of your amp, into a cabinet, and then take a line or slave out from your amp into a power amp. Let the poweramp power your left and right cabinets.

but then hes not getting the whole head tone going to the effects. he is just getting the preamp section. using a palmer or load box he is getting exactly what is goig to the dry cab.

So this is how I am seeing w/d/w setup. Amp straight into cabnet. Amp straight into thd hotplate. Line out on hotplate to harmonizer with pitch detunte out to power amp stereo to 2 other cabs.

Well I better start collecting gear!
