Default How Do You Lower The Action Of A Flyod-Rose?

I'm going to research this but I figured I'd ask here first.

How do I lower the action of my Floyd Rose tremelo?

The pivots screws (either lodge directly into the wood if you have a traditional style Floyd or into inserts) are the first thing to check: if they're raised, lowered them with the right flathead screw. Then it just depends on your setup, remember setting up a Floyd is finding the right balance.

If the action of your guitar isn't low, it's not going to matter how low you set the Floyd on the pivot screws.

    Sometimes it's an allen screw.

If you lower the pivot posts too low, the trem won't function properly.
More often than not, a poor action on a Floyd equiped guitar is due to an incorrect "pitch" of the neck. To correct this, you'll need to add a neck shim.

Please post pics of the angle of the strings vs. the neck so we can confirm this.

The answer is that it depends. On a guitar with a recess cut into the body for the floyd, you can lower the entire floyd by turning the screws down. Where you run into trouble is on guitars that have flush mount floyds like the Wolfgang, Axis, EBMM/EVH or Charvel Art Series.

The problem on these guitars is that you are not really lowering the strings at all by lowering the pivot screws. You are only changing the angle of the floyd so that it is no longer level. This causes problems with intonation. The bridge saddles that are farther back actually raise the string height instead of changing the vibrating legnth of the string. Another problem is that the knife edge of the floyd is trying to pull itself out of the fulcrum point on the pivot screws instead of being pulled into it. This leads to tuning instability.

The best way to lower the acton on a flush mount floyd guitar is to shim the neck slightly in the back of the neck pocket. This brings the neck closer to the strings instead of bringing the strings closer to the neck.

The answer has already been posted several times: shim the neck.

The pivot posts need to be set so the Floyd is level and parallel with the body. Next, the guitar should be properly set up for the string gauge on it. The locking nut should be set at the proper height. If all that is in place and the action is still high, shim the neck. (The shim should be only about one centimeter in width and sit in the bottom end of the neck pocket.)

Shimmy shim shim. If all else fails, take it to a good luthier who will be able to set it up nice a low for you. And don't start fucking around with the truss rod unless you know what you're doing.
