Default This was a surprising stat

Sorry if its been posted before, but I just stumbled across this and I didn't realize the separation was this great.

2007 Van Halen tour with David Lee Roth:
39 shows, $56.7 million Gross Revenue
    Avg capacity 99.9967%

2004 Van Halen tour with Sammy Hagar:
79 shows, $54.3 million Gross Revenue
    Avg capacity 73%

In less than half the shows, Van Roth has already made more money than the ENTIRE VAN HAGAR 2004 TOUR!

I believe it has been posted here a couple times.

But it IS mind blowing that one tour gets surpassed by only 39 shows.

It's funny how you don't realize how sub-par a tour is business-wise (ala 2004) when your rocking out in the front row!

If it encourages the band to try and stay together and do something more, than I'm glad that this tour has been so successful.

Otherwise, it's just money in somebody else's pocket.

Wolfgang Van Halen's W-2 form at the age of 16 makes me embarassed to go to HnR Block.

Not sure what the shock is...

Who wouldn't want to go see Eddie and Dave together again after 23+ years (regardless of no new music), versus going to see another same ole-same ole Van Hagar show that had a fork stuck into it since 1995/96...

I know I skipped 2004 on the simple reason of "Why Bother?"

Yet decided to catch them twice in 2007...

What surprises me is that people have been paying $150 for pretty crappy seats. This tour is very high priced when it comes to the average (or below average) seat. Very bad seats are going for the same price as great seats in 2004.

I only paid $75 for upper tier (excellent view)... and they had $45 seats (obstructed).
I was honestly surpised every seat in the house wasnt at least $100.

Uh, double the revenue in about half the time, but only 25% more capacity? Am I really the only one here who doesn't need a calculator to figure this out?

And of course, I realize there will be the "If the 2004 tour had these prices, the capacity would be less than the 70-something %"- I'm not saying I agree or disagree, I'm saying I expect to hear it...

Most shows have A,B, and C levels being $150. Most of the seats in these sections are bad seats (the ones farther from the stage) I'm surprised they sell them.

not surprising...they did play to quite a few half empty arenas in '04...shows you the success of the DLR is back concept.

    I'll admit I'm a mark for David Lee Roth so I understand it for this tour, but outside of how bad Ed & Sammy and 2004 were for being 'tired' there is lots of evidence that even if 2004 was sharp this would do better. If you want to make money in America always play up nostalgia. It never fails. Three of a hundred examples;

    Jimmy Buffet. Nuff said.

Barrett-Jackson Auction - people bidding up pos 1970's bondo muscle cars beyond what they could buy a brand new supercar for that looks better, is more reliable, and is faster and is more comfortable and handles a million times better.

Back in the day when Ozzy was still with it he'd do better on his reunion Black Sabbath tours with a couple barchord playing burnouts than he would solo where he stacked the deck with the best gunslingers he could find.

One big difference is that the fan's children are older now. I can't tell you how many young kids parents brought with them. I didn't see nearly as much in '04 and with the 3 or so years added on to VH fans many more 10-13 year olds to attend with mommy and daddy.

Add on the fact the this is the first chance to see Wolfgang on bass this show has to be bigger. If you really want to go for a stretch maybe the first time to see a lot of music that hadn't been played live by VH in 25 years. DLR fronting along with Wolfie and the new pre-teen kids of fans are all major factors.

Take a poll. There isn't one person in the entire arena who bought a ticket to see Wolfgang. I think it's safe to assume this would have been bigger if Mikey was there.

It's pretty simple: A healthy Eddie and an up-to-date Dave=$$$
