    Fantasy Baseball 2008

I sent everyone that was in the 2 leagues last year e-mails with the info you need to join. If anyone drops out of League 1, Jimmy812 wants in. League 2 will have 2 spots open since I will not be inviting two "managers" that were problems last year. Those that followed league 2 last year will remember the dick that accussed everyone of cheating and the other person that just quit after a couple of weeks...(they were both non-linkers.)
Send me a P.M. if you would like to play in League 2.

By all means, if anyone else wants to start other linker leagues, go ahead and get it rolling.

Is the plan to keep all of the scroring catagories from last year in League 1?

    As a refresher
    Hitting
Duplicating catagories - H, HR (we have TB and AVG)
    Pitching
Duplicating Catagories - H, W (we have ERA & WHIP), or visa versa

I'm definitely in for one league or the other, Brew. What do you think the chances are of a spot opening in League 1?

not duplicating! Guys who hit HRs and guys who rack up a lot of TB are not necessarily the same animal.

And ERA and WHIP are averages while H & BB are cumulative statistics (and if I had to lose one, I'd rather keep H & BB and lose WHIP) - it's possible to rack up a lot of hits and walks against but still keep the WHIP low if you pitch a lot of innings. It's the guys that rack up the Hits and Walks against and get knocked out early that mess you up!

    I'm in.

From what I can tell, it looks like master BREW has made a few changes to the scoring from last year. Some of the negative categories for pitchers (i.e., L, H, BB) are gone, and replaced by a single negative category, Blown Saves. I like this change. Looks like he's also changed the trade review from Commissioner approves to "League votes." Not really sure of the reason for this change, but I'm generally ok with it. I just hope this doesn't become one of those leagues where people veto just because they think a trade is slightly unbalanced. Some people are too quick to veto.

Looking forward to the new season!

You're right, and I luv ya for it billy, but it's just overkill. I mean AVG with RISP is a stat too, but it doesn't mean we should use it.

I think having multiple categories overlapping each other distorts the weekly matchups. It sucks a lot of the meaningful strategy right out of it.

My main thing is with the pitching - finding some risk to the reward of changing out your pitching staff everyday and piling up positive stats, but not really having to take much of a negative hit. I mean, as long as you are good in your picks, stuff like ERA and WHIP will stay low, but you have to be real sharp to keep your BB and H down while racking up those K and W totals.

I like the HR's and total base categories. I posted a note asking what you guys think the minimum innings should be...I am thinking 24 to keep people from just playing relievers and setup guys.
Hits...I like the stat but what do you all think? I think hits overlap total bases more than HR's. Chicks dig the long ball! Besides, what is the first stat you look(ed) at when you turned around a hitters baseball card?

There is one person that needs to sign up yet, and I haven't looked up who it is yet. Does anyone know who is missing before I start digging?

League 2 is open for whoever wants to join. I forgot how many non-linkers were in that league and no one knew who anyone was for the most part anyway.
The private league is on Yahoo, the ID# is 46045 and the password is 5150. We have a live draft in March. If you need more details before joining, PM me.

There was a team called ND Fighting Irish last year, but I don't know who the manager was - think that might be the missing team, though.

thanks for the invite Brew. I'm in. The Undrafted Freeagents will prove in March that we truly are only NBA draft gurus and know too little about baseball to compete.

Let me ask you guys something: I joined a league last year that was a keeper league. You get to keep 2 players from your roster the previous year. Anyway, I was thinking of keeping Jake Peavy and Ryan Braun, even though I'm a little hesitant of the 'sophomore slump' with Braun.
My other choices would be Magglio Ordonez, Lance Berkman, Aramis Ramirez and Justin Verlander.
Then I was thinking of keeping Maggs and Braun and not keeping any pitchers, but Jake is very tempting.
    What do you guys think?

I'd keep Peavy for sure. Then it would probably come down to Ramirez or Ordonez.
