Default Another Horror Franchise being re-launched.

Platinum Dunes Re-Launching Freddy Krueger Franchise
    Source: Variety January 29, 2008

Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to re-launch Freddy Krueger, the iconic psycho who haunts the subconscious dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep, reports Variety.

The trio will create a new franchise based on A Nightmare on Elm Street, the 1984 Wes Craven film. Originally played by Robert Englund, Krueger haunted nine films and two TV series.

The deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready for an April start for Friday the 13th, a New Line re-launch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees. Cloverfield star Odette Yustman has just been set to star, and Marcus Nispel will direct a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy Vs. Jason).

Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, something that Platinum Dunes provided in the Nispel-directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. New Line won't hire a writer on "Nightmare" until the writers strike ends.

    meh....who cares.....

I think Hollywood would rewrite the Bible if they thought they could make a buck off of it. Nothing like recycling old ideas.......

I'm waiting for them to remake Casablanca or Star Wars. That shit is next, mark my words.

For a second there, I thought this was going to be another thread about the New Kids On The Block reunion.

I take it you somehow managed to miss all the hubbub around Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ" movie from a few years ago.

Yeah, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake series really went far. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" made less than 40 million, more than 50% less than the the remake. A REMAKE SERIES dead by the second film. The same is in store for Freddy and Jason if these clowns produce their remakes. I suppose I'll have to pen a script for the Freddy one and try to point it toward the right direction...

That's beside the point the New Testament was written by 4 guys about the same events in the first place.

No, it's not "beside the point", as bsbll4's initial "point" was that the bible could some day be rewritten by Hollywood, just as everything else from the past is being re-made today. I pointed out that in a way it already has, by Gibson's "interpretation" of events.

I was not attacking the "accuracy" of the book by those that put it together, as that is a discussion for another thread.

Let's just hope they don't think they can "reboot" the Godfather!!! I know three wasn't the best movie, but god knows how bad a new version would be.

I can see the remake of Elm Street being more successful than the Friday the 13th remake, however I've been a Voorhees fan for a long time (guilty pleasure, I guess), and I am curious about seeing a remake.

Let's just hope these films are at least not rated PG-13, like a lot of today's crappy horror movies are. They need to be Rated R with violence and nudity...preferably the female kind, please.

I guess I'm just soured on the industry as a whole. I love to go see movies, but they borrow too much from either best selling books (Da Vinci Code, Jurassic Park, etc.), foreign films (Grudge, The Eye, etc.), or shitty remakes of old classics (Poseidon Adventure, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, etc.). The script writers are the laziest bunch of slobs I've ever seen. I wonder if we'd all keep our jobs if just recycled old ideas over and over again.

On the independant side, the movies are so artsy like "Juno" that's it's irritating. Some of those movies are to "hip" for their own good.

People love old IPs. I get it. But I would much rather see something new, even if it fails, than see something old being brought into the new way of film making. I have yet to see a remake where I walked out of the theater glad they remade the original film.

What's worse, is people talk about how the "horror" genre is making a comeback. No, they are actually the worst when it comes to regurgitating old IPs. Here's a few I came up with off the top of my head:

    - The Omen
    - The Amytyville Horror
    - Halloween
    - Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    - Friday the 13th
    - Nightmare on Elm Street
    - The Hills Have Eyes
    - 13 Ghosts
    - Zombie movies (they're all the same)

The point is, you can't call it a comeback when you are just spurting out all the same old crap with a new sheen. It's not back until a new generation actually puts some work in and comes up with a new movie that doesn't suck shitwater.

What are these scripwriters being paid for anyway?
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
