Default Dave telling Wolf to shut up

Well, as originally posted by jrnyc in the Official Dallas tour thread, here is the video:

Now, let's over-analyze this thing until we're all sick of it.

    My observations:
    1. This tune kicks major butt. Still think it'd also be a great encore/closer.
    2. I have to feel sorry for Wolf whatever the circumstances surrounding Dave's comment. He finally blurts out something spontaneous and gets harshly rebuked by Dave.
    3. Dave was good to address it later, but his excuse was lame.
    4. I bet Dave caught a glimpse of Valerie in the wings with a vise for his nutsack.

Ok, let's overanalyze it. It was a weird moment. Shut your fuckin mouth Wolfie was a pretty harsh comment. I like the way Ed stops playing the opening riff and looks over to Dave and then to Wolf. He seemed upset and then Dave has to tell him to play the song. For a minute there it looked like the whole thing was going to come undone...and that kind of comment made by Dave would be just the thing to do it. You want to really piss off Eddie? Tell his kid to shut the fuck up and that should do it...thankfully it looks like everything worked out in the end, but I feel bad for Wolf getting told that in front of 16,000 people. Dave really messed up there. Maybe he didn't really mean it the way it sounded, but it didn't sound good.

Isn't this just Dave being Dave? He clearly wanted to sing Happy Birthday in the middle of the song, and (in his mind) Wolf fucked that up by starting to sing at the beginning of the song, so dear old Uncle Dave told him to shut his fucking mouth.

    Welcome to Van Halen, Wolfgang.

yeah, Dave probably should have given him a noogie or something instead.

This is why Dave never raised any children.

It sounds like Wolf says something about Ed's birthday, and Roth tells him to shut his mouth. . .

Maybe he felt Wolf was blowing what Dave had planned for the middle of the song (singing Happy B-Day to Ed)? That's what it looked like to me. . .like Dave was basically saying 'way to spoil the surprise, boy."

That was VERY awkward. Just the sort of Dave stupidity that will derail the whole shebang.

Nice try at a save by Dave and it looks like he realised that he had screwed up.

The kiss & cuddle looked very strained and seems to be a fall back for those guys to "show" that they are all getting along, but it looks a little forced.

I think Ed said: "During Alex's solo, I'd like you to re-read section 36, paragraph 4 of Addendum 3 to your contract entitled "Contract for tour performance, not to be construed to include any interest or standing in the entity known as Van Halen beyond said tour performance" regarding showing proper respect to Wolfgang Van Halen at all times, specifically the "When Wolfgang says 'jump', you are to quickly respond, 'how high', or where appropriate, 'might as well' clause."

I think Eddie would have done something a little more drastic if it was that serious of a situation. Having a fit over sound problems but not getting mad when Dave says that to his son...I think not.
