    Default Bottom Line

I'm currently going through a solo DLR phase at the moment, and although I'm not a big fan of this song, this video is very cool.

One for the guitar heads on the site. Jason Becker playing bits of Drop In The Bucket all on a clean setting. That guy was a stellar musician.

"Drop" has recently become my favorite DLR solo track. It just feels right.

Becker had some good shit on that album. This was cool to hear it stripped down.

I'd be truly curious to hear the initial version of the album that included Billy Sheehan's bass more prominent in the mix. FORD was always going on and on about it, apparently it is an extremely rare bootleg or acetate. Supposedly, it had a rougher, raunchier sound to it.

I maintain to this day that "Skyscraper" is Dave's best solo album, and that it points to what could have truly been remarkable, yet will (sadly) never be.

you know..i haven't paid enough attention to DLR's solo stuff beyond those first three records...great stuff on those records. I also like A little Ain't Enough...i got into other stuff by the time she's my machine and the DLR band stuff was coming out...i need to go back and take a look at it...but I really really enjoy the stuff he made with sheehan, vai, and bissonet.

Dave's got some very high quality solo work. The DLR Band album and ALAE being my personal faves.

The EEAS and Skyscraper tours were great tours as well. But Skyscraper is my least favorite DLR solo effort. His God complex was out of control at that point, deciding that he could produce the album as well. There are good songs on there that sound like shit, that Ted Templeman would have made sound much better.

I have the double live disc from the Skyscraper Tour - In Search of Paradise Lost - I play it alot, pretty good, especially the acoustic set, and Dave sounds pretty damn good.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

skyscraper-to me is an example of Dave looking at the sales of EEAS and looking at the sales of 5150 and saying "well, I can do that just as good as them" and trying to sound like his old band. EEAS was very much like a follow up to Diver Down to me, same basic formula-lots of cover songs mixed in with some rockin originals. Skyscraper is almost a 180 degree turn, over produced, more keyboards all that stuff. What I always thoght was interestign was that Dave went more pop when you compare EEAS to SS and Van Halen went for a rawer sound on alot of OU812 with AFU, Source, Black n Blue and all that.

I liked SS for what it was, Damn Good is a great song.
