Default Links Luthiers: Who can make this neck?

So I've been working on this Warmoth VW body for a while now (see photo). The black quilt has turned out very nice, and I've had a Gotoh Floyd Rose and a pair of Seymour Duncan 59s waiting for it to get done.

Here's the problem: The neck pocket is routed for a standard Strat-type heel. Originally I'd planned to mount a Wolfgang neck to it, but the extra routing (to either the body or neck) is not something I want to do at this stage. I'd really like to have an EBMM or Wolfgang (or similar) style neck on the guitar. Who can make one? It'd be maple (rock or figured), 3x3 or 4x2 headstock, Strat-type heel, 25 1/2 scale.

I don't like the Warmoth headstock options, and they're damn expensive anyway.

Andrew if you can hang in there I probably can help you out. The guy I have teamed up with on machining my bodies will be doing necks too. Hang on to that body! Figured maple has gone way up. I checked with Warmoth the other day to see what they are getting. For flat tops in now something like a $300 dollar upgrade on top of the base. If gives me something to go buy when pricing my stuff. Good parts are expensive. Anyway I hope to be on the neck program soon unless somebody else hooks you up. You might consider hitting warmoth's thrift shop. Here is one I just finished up![IMG][/IMG]

Scott--by "Warmoth's thrift shop" do you mean the closeout section?

Let me know when you're doing necks. I like what I've seen of your work.

Another option I was just tossing around in my head is to either buy a paddleboard neck and shape it how I like, or re-shape a Strat neck to a 4x2 headstock.

    Thinking out loud...

Default Did I mention that I could make this neck for you?

I own a CNC machine. I made this guitar. I like to say that I remember it when it was a TREE!

Anyway, I can make any neck you want.

    Let me know.

    Hey Guys:

I forgot how many GOOD builders we have here at the Links.

For those who can possibly build this neck, will you PM me your price and time estimates?

    The approximate specs are:

Maple (birdseye or hard rock) back and fingerboard
    25 1/2" scale
"C" *OR* "Wolfgang" (asymmetrical) back contour
12"-15" radius (the flatter the better)
4x2 EBMM *OR* 3x3 Wolfgang (or something similar) headstock drilled for Schallers and a straight string pull
1 5/8" Floyd Rose locking nut shelf
    Black dot inlays
    22 medium-jumbo frets (Dunlop 6105 or similar)
    Fender Strat heel shape
Truss rod adjustment at heel (preferably, but not necessary)

    Thanks guys!

    Holy f*cking sh*t!

You've got to be kidding me! You guys are hardcore with your CNC machines, Jeezus!!! That is NUTS.

    Nice job.

That pic a few posts up of the naked EBMM body is sort of how my Axis Super Sport looks, except it's stained a type of yellow. Sort of yellow/natural, I guess. I intentionally leave it in the sun (through the window), but it doesn't seem to be turning "natural".

I'm going to keep price quotes confidential for the sake of the makers/sellers, but the two quotes I received from deep6 and Divebomb were both very reasonable.

I hope i havent broken any rules by posting this. Oh yeah at first he answers emails, then once the money is sent and cashed the emails stop coming. Dont just take my word for it but read the other forum

Thanks for the heads up, spins.

There was a lot to sift through in that thread, and I skimmed mostly the beginning and end.

I chose to have Kyle (Divebomb) make my neck almost entirely because I've been communicating with him here on this board for more than half a year, I know his website, and I've seen lots of his work. Chris (deep6guitars) seemed like a nice guy from the little corresponding I did with him via email. It sounds like his business had some serious downs early on, but his post late in that Jem thread seemed believable. (Or at least I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.) I think he should also have the opportunity to post here to defend himself/his business.

So the long and the short of it is: Get to know deep6's work and reputation before ordering/buying something from him, and do that with anyone you're buying from anyway.
