Default great alternative to the 5150 III

Got my new Mako MAK2-Black yesterday and it's the sweetest amp I've ever played through. This is the version that has the Makoplex preamp instead of the Dorado. Nails the classic VH tone and has a great clean channel as well.

How much do those run? Cheaper than a 5150 III? Nice axe...I'm looking at doing a Warmoth guitar soon. What did you spend on that if you don't mind me asking?

I got mine for $2050 but Andrew from Mako jacked the price up to $2250 after he released the first batch. Not really cheaper but the quality is superb and its not noisy at all. It has a 7 switch frequency knob on it that lets you change the sound of the amp. It's very flexible if your after wide range of tones. You can also get it with the Dorado preamp which is more metal sounding but I prefer a plexi type sound. Check out makoamplification.com for details on it. Listen to the clips of the Makoplex and the sums up what the MAK2-Black sounds like.
My warmoth cost me a little over a $1000. I bought the body from their showcase and left the neck unfinished so that saved me a couple of bucks.

Here's a recording I did this past weekend with my band. The MAK2 is the rhythm guitar using an Ibanez JS1200. The lead guitar was done by the other guitarist in my band. He was using a David Bray modded Marshall 1987X with a Les Paul Custom.
