The scary part is that this sort of thing probably happens all the time...Well not going so far as to wheel a dead senior citizen in an office chair...but the SS check cashing scam part. Were these guys going to forge the dead guy's signature or make him sign it himself?

That's what I thought as well. They must be pretty desperate to do all that for $300.

Wow...I can't believe that 2 65 year olds are capable of cooking up a scam like this. I guess I can see some loaded up kids trying to pull this off to get some cash to do some partying or something, but 65?!?! Good God, man. An office chair?? Weekend @ Bernies came to mind, as well as the National Lampoon's Grandma that got strapped to the roof.

Apparently these guys are old heroin addicts, the last surviving vestige of the old Hell's Kitchen neighborhood they live in. They are a throwback to the days of the area being far from the upscale, bistro laden neighborhood it currently is. They were tolerated by those living there, yet were a constant source of embarrassment, often seen struggling to scale the stairway to their second floor apartment.

Far from being an amusing tale, this is just plain sad and pathetic.

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

A call to a telephone number listed for Cintron at the apartment he shared with O'Hare went unanswered Tuesday evening.
